BEST reasons for having .au

i'm sick of hearing all the reason why we shouldn't have a .au , so this thread is for anyone who would like to state their reasons why a .au is a good thing.

RULES: no conversations ... just a elevator pitch, no rebuttal posts, just FREE reign for anyone to post why .au is going to be good.
RULES -2: no matter what is written, you can't post against it, lets keep this thread clean, debate it elsewhere.

because i honestly, really want to read the reasons why.

i am eagerly waiting the first post

Yeah, well given that most people would only subscribe to the thread when they reply, it's probably just you and me.

You should really give some context to your post - it wasn't until I stumbled across the link from the other thread that I realised the intent behind this thread: https://www.dntrade.com.au/threads/...ment-over-au-proposal.11784/page-5#post-91450 ... which is why I decided to remove my post.

ohh, ok, well if you find the thread instructions confusing i am happy for input, basically all i was asking for was a stack of good reasons for the .au
nothing more, and what you didn't post is actually the most common and normally ONLY one !
there is nothing sinister about the thread.

No - the issue was that I didn't want to engage with the debate going on in that other thread.

But of course, now this thread has been dragged rather off topic.

Security
Aesthetics
Brevity
Speed
Radio Test
Easier to incorporate into brand logo (Major issue I have with .com.au)
More space for larger letters in offline signage and advertising for better recognition

A place for ideas to grow before they become commercially viable. The online equivalent of my kids setting up a lemonade stand but still within auDAs ecosystem. NOTE: During the 2015 names panel it was pointed out that 30% of users finding an available .com.au get turned away at the ABN/ACN screen. That is something like a million websites built in Australia by Australians who are told to use another extension for their new idea.

Our Prime Minister to have the opportunity to use pm.au rather than au.pm when he wants to tweet a short link.

General public to have a usable extension to allow them to build works of art, school projects and university assignments. (in my opinion asn.au and id.au suck).

As Rhythm pointed out there are business benefits for new companies or existing companies willing to put some work/money into the change.

There are long term benefits for the Aftermarket too.
All Australians will be eligible for the product.
You could sell peake.au to any of the thousands of Peake's in the phonebook, there must be at least one of them who is more vain than me.
There should be less paperwork to trade a .au (no ABN/ACN requirement)
You get the .au for $20 for a domain which you purchased off the Aftermarket for $5K and you value at $50K you can then bundle the sale, talk to a larger market and for minimal upfront cost.

FALSE - Creating false and misleading information which affects people's & consumers opinions
All Australians will be eligible for the product.

Also note for auDA and Supply parties posting
https://www.accc.gov.au/consumers/misleading-claims-advertising/false-or-misleading-claims
Creating a false or misleading impression
Businesses are not allowed to make statements that are incorrect or likely to create a false impression.

This rule applies to their advertising, their product packaging, and any information provided to you by their staff or online shopping services. It also applies to any statements made by businesses in the media or online, such as testimonials on their websites or social media pages.

For example, businesses cannot make false claims about:
  • the quality, style, model or history of a product or service
  • whether the goods are new
  • the sponsorship, performance characteristics, accessories, benefits or use of products and services
  • the availability of repair facilities or spare parts
  • the need for the goods or services
  • any exclusions on the goods and services.
It makes no difference whether the business intended to mislead you or not. If the overall impression left by a business’s advertisement, promotion, quotation, statement or other representation creates a misleading impression in your mind—such as to the price, value or the quality of any goods and services—then the behaviour is likely to breach the law."

pm.gov.au The .gov.au for Government gives people confidence who it is, the security of the website and that is official.

Look also at www.MalcolmTurnbull.com.au ( PM) and Opposition www.BillShorten.com.au

Readily identifiable and stronger branding from an international perspective (Those looking in).
After all the international country code for Australia is AU

I have manufacturing clients who export and would switch to .au tomorrow.

I agree with Rhythm about the logo design. It is a major pain especially when trying to design for a rectangle.

Best positive of having a ".au" will be that you will get PAID to own one! How many other extensions will PAY you to use them? Can't believe .AU will be the first, it's going to be amazing.
