Hi,

This program has benefits and when taken up by clients that are interested in long term renewals, so this program is fine in such cases. So great for end users.

If we can still sign up for the program and if they look at increasing the time frame or the amount of rebate, that will definitely encourage us to support it as then it will make sense to do so for our clients and the cost to implement is then worth it.

Cheers
David

Great so will you be signing up so we ( your customers with .au domain name renewals) can benefit from it?

I think the timeframe is 1st May - 30th June and then it is a new .au wholesale Registry provider Afilias so I can see why auDA/ Ausregistry have agreed on this date up until 30th June 2018.

Afilias may wish to do some promotions also to show us how they can do it better

hi,

We have signed up for the program now and have been approved.

Some quick rules:
- We plan to pass this rebate on in full.

- we will apply the rebate to your account balance within 14 days of us getting the rebate on any domains that qualified.

- you need to figure out what names qualify and renew them at the right time.

What names qualify example:
Today 11th of May, domain names that qualify are those that expire in 60-90 days time. So any names expiring from 11 July+30 days.

At Drop we offer a very easy way to find what names qualify:
- go to the Renewals page
- Select filter "Expiring within 90 days"
- in the list, see column "Days Until Expiry" any domain that has over 60 Days to 90 Days are the only ones that qualify that day.

So if you wish to take advantage of this rebate program, feel free to start moving names to Drop, which is free, and then do the renewal and save.

Cheers
David

Other Registrars seem to be doing their discounts from 1st May for any names expiring from that date. They are already live with the program.

Your program will only give the discount for names from 11th July?

Whatever this promotion is it is clear it is a mess, very few know about it and it is not being promoted properly by anyone.

to be clear here:

The rebate is only for domains that expire in 60 - 90 days time, that are renewed now.
This rebate is in place till the end of June 2018.

So the rebate is already in place NOW, and will be applied to any domains that are in that expiry range 60-90 days.
Some examples:
- Today the 14 May, domains that expire between 14 July and 13 August, qualify for the rebate.
- Domains that expire this week will not get this rebate from AusReg.
- On 30 June, the domains that expire on 29 August to 28 September qualify for a rebate. All others do not.

So every day there is a different date range for domains that qualify.

Hope that helps clarify.

So if the full Afilias 60% lower prce was passed on by Afilias/ auDA I guess that is a better deal that this time limited .au renewal discount promotion from Ausregistry / auDA anyway..

I've had a few tickets recently about the promotion and I want to be clear.
In order to pass on the savings in full we are not making any changes to our system which means we are not applying discounts up front.
You pay the full rate now (just like we do). When AusReg gives us a list of domains which qualified and applies a credit to our account we will then do the same and apply a credit to your account for each of your domains which qualified.

Hi,

Only a 10% saving is planned to be passed to the registrars by Afilias/auDA.
Not the full 60% saving that is being achieved by the transition.

Why only 10% and not the full 60%?

What is the reason from current auDA Management and Board

auDA is obviously failing in it's obligations to Consumers. A key component of their obligations as .au namespace managers.

It also is part of the 29 suggestions from the Commonwealth they had been warned about to fix... to NOT focus on their own profits and to better look after Consumers.

Registrars, Resellers and .au domain name Registrants need to know about this and to speak up.

We do not want to see auDA wasting more money or further building their own empire.

"Recommendations:

2. That auDA continue to operate as a not-for-profit entity and does not seek to maximise profit.

3. Consideration of commercial strategies relevant to the sustainability of the domain administrator should not detract from the domain administrator’s core function as described in the terms of endorsement and core purpose."

Great news everyone... the Bounty offered by AusRegistry has been increased to $10 rebate on renewals on domains that quilify for the discounts.

We at Drop and DomainShield will be passing this rebate in full. Any clients that have already taken advanage of this offer will be retrosprectively looked after, so you will receive the $10 instead of the $5 previously advised.

Note: "The program ends 22 June 2018 - or until the remaining Registry Marketing funds are exhausted."

So if you have not moved your names to Drop, please do so and start saving on this renewal offer program. Plus dont forget to reach out to Cam Bell to check that your account has the volume registation/renewal discount rate applied.

Cheers

Finally someone has the honesty to post about this .au renewal discount promotion and to pass on the discount in FULL.

Well done www.Drop.com.au

Why has this been kept secret from .au domain name Consumers by auDA and so many others in Supply?

What is needed is a list of actual participating Registrars who are passing on the sale price.

Even better may be the new Afilias July 1st- 31st new registration Deal which will be ZERO Afilias charges apparently!

How many Registrars never told their .au consumer customers about the renewal promotion?

How many Registrars kept the money for themselves?

Is this how the new auDA "Marketing" slush fund will work?

since you had to opt in AND you had to have clients renew names EARLY (60 Days EARLY) which no one ever does, unless you tell them that there is a bounty for doing so. We pushed this hard and the 1st month we had a whophing 44 domains renewed EARLY. Then had to go through credit applications and signup forms so that ausreg would actually pay us, at one stage I told them to keep it as cheaper for us to pay clients out of our own pockets, then to go through all the forms and invoicing just to get this paid to us.

so not sure why you think the registrars are the bad guys here.

Hi David,

I appreciate how you did jump in and have your staff participate in this and make it available for your .au domain name Consumer customers.

In the end how many renewals did your group achieve? Would it hundreds or thousands extra?

The Marketing slush fund is not in the interests of .au domain name Consumers. It has not transparency nor any accountability.

It is insane that the current auDA Management have continued on their path without listening to stakeholders and the Government's detailed report.

For auDA to be planning to spend $12 million on marketing as not for profit raises very serious questions.

  • Where is the business case and plan for members and stakeholders to review?
  • How will the $12 million be spent?
  • Are any parties who will receive benefits or financial payments in any way related to auDA Staff, auDA Management, auDA Board, Liberal Party or Liberal Party members.
  • What is the projected growth of .au when they spend $12 million
  • Are they planning to promote the new competing direct .au extensions as part of that $12 million to further destabilise and damage the existing .au registrants investments and our very solid, secure global .au reputation
  • Is auDA tendering for expenses related to the $12 million?
I have no confidence in current auDA Management and the auDA Board who is signing off.

It is insane that the current auDA Management have continued on their path without listening to stakeholders and the Government's detailed report.

But there has always been a Marketing fund under AusReg, the only difference now is that before it was only good for 2-3 registrars who could benefit, (except for the last bounty) the consumer never did, and the smaller registrars were put further at a disadvantage, and now with the new structure seems to be opened up to all equally and with caps. So the big registrars can't take it all like they used to. That to me is a step in the right direction. Yes there are still issues with the whole thing, the format, how it was worked out, etc.. but honestly every registry operator runs marketing programs to grow the space and they decide how its done. So no different here.

I have the pricing break up and I for one was expecting alot more than just a 10% discount... so for me I am still disappointed with the amount of saving passed on. The marketing fund is a good start but there is room still for a bigger discount to wholesale. So that is what I would like to see, as that is what can be passed onto the consumer.
