Getting your .blog domain

Yep, Tried combinations of first names, you can pay $3500 per year for christopher.blog or christian.blog $15,000 or catholic.blog $800 or $40 for other variations. Seems like they should add the word Premium next to expensive ones. Like they do for other TLds.

I did buy Lukes.blog in a pre-registration auction at GoDaddy. I bought LukesBlog.com from BuyDomains.com a couple of years ago, so I thought I may as well cover my bases. It's quite possible that I'll never use either of them, so I doubt that it was money well spent :p

Luke.blog is very affordably priced at just $9,169.99 ...per year ;)

You'll pay even more for christophers.blog: $6,512.96

They have a 'premium' tag on the domains at GoDaddy (which is where I'm looking up these prices), but I doubt that's the case across all registrars.

you still have to get past the "understanding" of new....dare i say WEIRD tld's
these "paid" for creations do not have market capitalisation or infiltration so davids.plumbing sounds great IF everywhere you looked all plumbers were using .plumbing and thats where i see the issue.

for me davidsplumbing.com.au is better or dubboplumbing.com.au

.bmw i have always stated is better then most, as it could be used for branches eg: dubbo.bmw , toorak.bmw , snoopy commented previously that there is a melbourne in florida so once again a small fail. but .bmw having THE COMPANY endorse it and most likely GIVE it away would make it succeed from a marketing point of view rather then a profitable point of view until you get the premiums like someone being allowed to own i3.bmw ! , z4.bmw etc but what really would they do with it ??????????? maybe hold it until its a famous as xj6.jag ?
would anyone prefer dubbo.bmw over dubbobmw.com.au ? most likely and thats not a trash of .com.au its just a fact if bmw got that strategy then it would work i think. as for all the rest i don't see them overly hurting the .com.au

In that lies an interesting scenario with the new gtld as far as peoples' names are concerned..
You'd think that Lukes.blog davids.plumbing
Sounds & even looks better to the eye, even saying it just makes sense.. my 2cts
I agree. I think the best usage of the nTLDs is 'span the dot' terms. The ones that sound right when said out loud. E.g. home.loans (not one of mine).

With .blog, I think they missed a few for their ridiculous premium pricing. That is, they didn't catch on to pricing the possessive form of a few common first names (like Luke's Blog: lukes.blog). I suspect that they've probably since made some 'adjustments', now that they have registration data showing what people want.

I should add a caveat to my comments on nTLDs. I'm not a massive fan of the nTLDs (I've got less than 10). I'm keeping an open mind for the future, but right now they don't fit with my investment strategy, and there's every chance that they never will!

That's certainly the key issue with nTLDs - most people have no idea what they are.

Many people would not recognise lukes.blog as a domain name.

I think nTLDs necessitate putting the www. back at the front of the domain on billboards etc. And even then I think people would still stuff it up and end up at lukesblog.com or lukes.blog.com

I suspect a lot of dealers wouldn't want any part of it. They've all got established web presences and I think unless it is a direct order from BMW they wouldn't see the need to make a risky change.

If you look at what BMW has done though they launched a site celebrating its hundredth birthday

http://www.circleid.com/posts/20160322_new_bmw_site_aligns_bmw_tld_with_the_companys_future/

I can't find any other site in Google other than next100.bmw. That is basically saying "Hey we aren't so sure about this so lets launch try it on something totally unimportant to our business". The site peaked at a couple of hundred visitors a day according to Semrush.com, now about 30 visitors per day.

They haven't seemed to have done anything since so I'm guessing it was seen as not working well in terms of confusion, ditto for Overstock, Alphabet. If it did work well for BMW they'd be launching a lot more sites.

So there is people tinkering but the results are pretty clear, they don't need to issue a press release saying it didn't work well, they just forget about the site and never use it again.

I've started to see a bit of focus on .aws, from the launch of their new video confrencing tool https://chime.aws/ but a quick search didn't yield to many results, Looks like they are launching domain registration under their brand too. http://www.nic.aws/
The biggest current problem I see is with web servers not recognising the ntlds in their rulesets. So on the domains I have emails aren't getting through spam traps, and forms. And I can see it could be really hard to code for this validation, as they keep adding more and more variations. Spam rules just wont be able to cope. I wonder if they decided to number the extensions, then a Ruleset could be created to validate the extension number against a global database like an ip range and then validate the nTLD. I own 2 nTLDs. And yes I agree adding www. to all print material is needed, due to people confusing your domain for a sentence not a url.

I don't think that is really "a focus" by Amazon, they have spent ($20 million?) on new extensions and decided to try one out a year or two later, for a fairly unimportant part of their business.
