HI all,
Does anyone have any recommendations for a directory/listing type of theme/script?
I have used some in the past but times have changed. I've Googled and keep going around in circles.
Prefer Wordpress but open to other CMS systems if need be. I'm having trouble finding something the quality I need.

All I can suggest is DirectoryPress.Net, BrilliantDirectories.com, PremiumPress.Com .......perhaps one of them is new to you?
~
ThemeForest.Com ....... search Directory for a few more options

I went through this same circle - I found that there are scripts like http://directorypress.net/, http://www.premiumpress.com and others but none of them did exactly what I wanted. I finally found another really nice script based on Wordpress which I found was the best: http://themeforest.net/item/javo-directory-wordpress-theme/8390513
Good luck, worth buying!

I did have a look at javo in my travels actually and considered going with that. I can't remember what stopped me. I'll have another look.

Thanks guys.

Hi Cooper Mills,
Have you had problems with the javo theme on an iphone. It seems to work fine on a desktop but when I try the demo on an iphone the same page is very slow and doesn't fully load. Have you experienced the same problem with a working website? Thanks for asking the question Johno because I had been looking for the same thing.

I've just been looking at premiumpress directory too.
Here are some features i'm looking for that seem to be making the out of the box these fall short.
  1. Subscription listings - set up a listing on a monthly/annual basis where it auto renews.
  2. Claim listing - Users can see their business and claim ownership to it.
  3. Custom content, fields, etc
I looked at Vantage again, even after I swore to never go there again. They do have some nicely designed child themes for it, but no subscription option. The listings just get removed when they expire.

Ahh this is giving me a head ache.

interesting, I never had that issue, and I was using the earlier version. I see they are up to version 2. Which version did you use, or did you load their demo site ?

Thanks for the response Cooper Mills. I was just trying the demo site on an iphone and desktop at the same time. Every time I tried it on the iphone it didn't load the page and was very slow even trying to load. Meanwhile the demo site was up in a flash on the desktop. Maybe version 2 has some issues.

I'm just coming back to this again. As before, there are a fair few shortcomings on Vantage as a theme for my purpose.
Anyone used a plugin rather than a theme for any sort of directory?
I even upgraded to their developer licence and was looking at combining a few appthemes in a multisite environment but everywhere I turn it's issue after issue.
Starting to think a base theme that really rocks and some plugins to achieve the directory side of things.

I'm also interested if you come across anything @johno69 - most of what I've seen out there isn't great. They usually include way too many features or are just too rough around the edges.

i'm still working on my custom one, its been MANY hours and $$$$, i've got it responsive now, check it on mobile , still loads of work to go.
everything i found was just to "same same" , "hot frog revisited" , mine still kinda is but the function is there now, so my next step now is to switch off all the design fields that are not needed.

i think you are correct chris.... to many features........ especially now its all mobile device best to keep it SIMPLE, so my project has been about trying to " peel the onion"
i think the best question we have here is " whats the best directory you have seen" ? the go get it done. our current site is not like our mockup we are working towards so no critique's wanted as we know what looks crap right now.
"function the style"
