Like it or not, you should 'like' my page!

Hi all,

I know you don't need 25 likes to get your own facebook URL any more but dammit I still want those likes! :)

Any chance you could drop by my page and give it a 'like'?

Thanks! :D

I had that problem with another page...

Have you by chance already set the URL for another facebook page? If so, you just need to make a family member or friend an admin of your facebook page and then set the URL from their account. You can then remove them as admin if you like.

I think facebook still have a measure in place to prevent the personal URLs being abused.

Here's the site I found that gives you a run down on how to do it... http://dwaynekilbourne.com/2011/09/19/facebook-page-vanity-url-tip-no-need-for-25-likes-not-so-fast/

So, for those of you who already elected to use your one free pass and get your vanity URL locked in before you reached the 25 like requirement and who still need to lock in another vanity URL on a page that has yet to reach the 25 like threshold, I recommend a simple solution. All you need to do is go to your page’s settings (edit page option) and add somebody else who has not used that free pass as an administrator to the page. In my case, I have family members who just use Facebook for basic communication and picture sharing, and they have little need to start or manage a Facebook Page; that was a perfect situation for me. Give your mom or close friend who does not have a need for the Facebook Page loophole, and have them go to http://facebook.com/username and select the URL that you want. Of course, since you can only select one URL that Facebook will not allow you to change, make sure that you pick wisely and ensure that your friend or family member does not type it in incorrectly. Ideally, you would want to be in the same room with your family member or close friend when this happens.

hi, i just hit LIKE, and sent an email to helena to like you as well.

so thats 2 more !

I did the same thing for one of my businesses and its best to research your unique url before you start approaching FRIEND/FAMILY to like you as i later found out some canadian mob already had it BUGGER,

well i dislike facebook anyway so i wasn't bothered.

Not to derail or attack those asking for Likes in this thread but how do people feel about businesses requesting a Like before providing you with a coupon or special deal? Personally, it annoys me and it's enough for me to shop elsewhere given I don't use Facebook and I object to giving a tick of approval before I've even used the service.

This isn't to say those in this thread are doing that (nothing wrong with mates giving a help hand) but it makes for an easy segway into that discussion.

I don't like that tactic being used. There are many WP Plugins that i've seen lately that are "Like to access content". It annoys me and I usually shop elsewhere.

I have set up a few for clients where there is a competition: Like us to enter the draw.. Once they like the page it opens up access to an entry form. Not something I've implemented for any of my sites though.

The reason I have no problem asking for a like here is that my goal is to get to the magical 25, set the URL, then i'll say "Thanks, I have the 25" and those who want too can "Unlike" :).

This clip of Abe Simpson pretty much sums up my reaction to that type of marketing (e.g. when they require a like to view their content/receive a coupon etc)...
