Google Extending AdSense for domains to all publishers

Hey Troy - didn't notice your post - sorry!

Well spotted - this is really huge news. Could be the death of parking companies..

Must say their monetised pages don't look all that flash. But I guess auDA would look at them in a similar light to existing parked pages... with a reluctant acceptance.

Don, I'm not so sure it is good news. As per the article I posted on Netfleet, how real do you think the following scenario could be?

Currently:

A domain parked with Namedrive
Advertiser pays $1 for his click
Google takes $0.60 cut
Namedrive take $0.15
Domain owner gets $0.25

Future:

Domain parked with Adsense for Domains
Advertiser pays $1 for his click
Google takes $0.70 cut
Domain owner gets $0.30

So it's all good, domainers get a higher revenue and everybody wins! But what happens in twelve months when all the parking companies have closed down and Google decides they might like to squeeze a little more revenue and take an $0.85 cut. Who is in a position to argue with the big G?

However, saying that I'm going to sign up & give it a shot :)

Hi David,
Yes good point, although I have all my parked domains with Trafficz and they use Yahoo ads, I have some Google adsense on my holiday accommodation sites. I believe the only parking companies affected will be the ones using Google ads, so they may all go to Yahoo now. I have always wondered how much difference in payment is from Google to Yahoo ads on parked pages.

That's ok Net, I was just stirring.

(Deep down I know you saw the earlier post but you wanted to repost it with a link to NetFleet.) :D

Troy

Nonesense!! I think I recognised how significant the news was & was rushing to get the scoop out there so I somehow missed your post. Ah well - good on you Troy for breaking the news here on DNTrade. (next time I'll beat you to it ;) )

Anyway back to the topic, will be really interesting to see how this affects parking co's. Can they survive by finding niches, maybe affilliate monetisation etc?

eg Fabulous, although they have a large portfolio themselves are sure to be affected.

Would love to hear their take on this... you reading, Mike?

I had read earlier that some of the larger parking companies had negotiated a larger cut of adsense fees, so they would still be able to take their share without being affected. I don't know how true this is.

I'm sure that is true - the question is whether Google will give direct domainers a similar cut to deliberately squeeze out the parking companies.

One thing that is in the parking companies favour is their landers look way better that Google's.

Of course we are watching this very closely, but I think it's too early to tell if it means trouble for all Google parking providers.

One important thing to note is that the reason parking providers exist is because they aggregate large volumes of traffic and can then negotiate higher rev shares with ad providers such as Google/Yahoo.

I have no idea what the standard rev share Google will be offering to Google Park customers, however, you may find that if you do park domains, you are still better off going through a parking company like Fabulous, DS, Sedo or ND.

There has been a lot of commentary on this subject over the weekend, rather than regurgitate what's already out there, here's some interesting blog posts:

Its only natural that Google would apply the squeeze if (and/or when..) it gain(s)/(ed) monopoly power. Its only natural, as that's what monopolies do, power corrupts, absolutely.

Hey netfleet, I just logged into our Adsense account (which we use for our developed domains, eg. Hairstyle.com) and we have Adsense for Domains available.

You will find it under "Adsense Setup > Get Ads".

Cheers,

Mike
