7 Applications by the Gov for tourism.au that is $70 wasted, auDA make around $42 from that, and then next year another $42... while Afilas and the Registrars do all the hard work, does not seem to be a fair split.

Thanks Joel,

We will check with auDA if that is indeed the case as I know that there are no system in place that actually checks if the original domain is still registered once a token has been applied for. So it might be that it should but will not actually do anything unless someone makes a complaint.
Is there any follow up info on this @trellian?

Registrars now get notified by identity Digital when a contested domain is released. These domains are then added to the registrant's account and 1 year registration is added to the domain from that date.

So a framework is in place now for registrars to be notified.

That sounds great :)

Does anything like this happen for when a .au token is linked to a domain that changes registrant or is purged from the registry?

For example, let's say domainer.au is contested as both owners of domainer.com.au and domainer.net.au both have a priority token. If the owner of domainer.net.au sells it or it expires (invalidating the token), does this trigger any notification to registrar or registrant?

If the owner of domainer.net.au :
sells it - the token is moved to the new owner - a cor does not void the claim
but if expires and drops, on the day of the drop the .au is given to the other party - this is when the registrar is notified and it is upto the registrar to notify their clients
