Dear Di,

That's great and I really appreciate the email back.

It would make a great positive media, tweet, linkedin announcement also to send out to get focus back on positive progress.

Better for everyone that auDA does an official one than just dntrade and domainer running it via their forums and blogs.

In reality it will need to be up fairly soon to get some awareness. I also think this will settle members down a bit if done right. They will have a good platform for candidate, issue, board, voting etc information.

At a minimum every candidate and existing Board member should be required to make a statement on the official auDA forum and participate in the Q and A like the CIRA model.

Improving communications like this will help a lot I think. Talking in advance of decisions & getting member, stakeholder input in 1 place online and not just "This is what auDA and Board have decided and done"... that has not worked.

Thank you for the suggestion. This seems like a good idea and I will see if this is something that we can accommodate in the new website functionality which is underway.

Thanks

Subject: suggestion: auDA official online Election forum

Dear Cameron,

To improve the communications and engagement between auDA, auDA members and auDA Board may I suggest auDA sets up and official auDA web forum for the auDA Candidates and Election.

CIRA seems to be one of the best online public formats around to look at and of course auDA could improve on that example where possible for the auDA 2017 Election.

It would be crucial for auDA Board Candidates to post their Candidate statements on the official auDA forum and for some form of public online Q and A. Note the CIRA election is also online;

https://cira.ca/election-resources
https://cira.ca/joining-nomination-committee
https://cira.ca/joining-board-directors
https://cira.ca/election-results
https://cira.ca/membership/become-a-member
https://cira.ca/2016-campaign-forum

"Participate in the campaign forum
The campaign forum in an online platform that facilitates discussions between candidates and members. Get to know the candidates by engaging in discussions about key points in their election platforms, issues affecting .CA, and the Internet in Canada and abroad. The campaign forum will help you make an informed decision when casting your vote in the board of directors election.

The forum is open from September 12 to September 19, 2017. Chat with the candidates during a online “Town Hall” on September 13 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. ET . This is an ideal time to ask candidates questions and get immediate responses."

auDA needs to set up a public forum area

I wonder how it would go in reality. For examples AUDA has moles here monitoring posts, they have people monitoring domainer and they have be known to demand things be taken down with vague legal threats. Could AUDA be trusted? They'd be deleting posts left right and centre in my view.

well DNT would finally return to being a forum about domaining instead of being about auDA.

Here's some big news. Shane Moore has decided for business and personal priotities not to run for the Board this year. I understand and respect that decision. He is genuinely one of the really nice guys out there.

Because of all the shenanigans that are still going on at auDA, I am more "Grumpy" than ever. So I've decided it's time to take a stand for communication and transparency. Therefore, with Shane's absolute blessing, I am stepping in to run with Nicole Murdoch. You can vote for one of us; both of us; or none of us!

If you decide to give us your vote, you can be assured that we will fight the good fight. I'm never backward in coming forward - and nor is Nicole.

After a great deal of thought I have decided not to run for the auDA board in 2017. Whilst I remain passionate about the Australian domain space, my company Trade Risk is going through a very exciting time and needs 100% of my focus right now.

I’m really sorry if anyone feels let down by my decision, but there is an extremely positive side to this.

I was originally going to run with Ned O’Meara, but he stepped aside after the very successful “Grumpy” campaign, and Nicole Murdoch replaced him. After advising Ned of my decision, he has decided to step back into the arena along with Nicole.

As a Demand Class member I’m feeling positive with two fantastic candidates to vote for. I wish Nicole and Ned all the best and I know they’ll do us proud.

No worries Shane I can understand the time commitment that running and then being on the board would have involved.

I totally understand Shane's position. Great News that you've now thrown your hat in the ring again though.

Both you and Nicole have my votes.

I don't feel let down by you Shane, there's always next year.

The idea of Nicole and Ned on the board will certainly cause some people issues.

Which I look forward to!

With liemon getting the supply side employees and spouse votes, it should be quite close.

well DNT would finally return to being a forum about domaining instead of being about auDA.
I think people post here because auDA, some media, government, google spiders now all read it..and in many cases the issues at auDA have an affect on the .au namespace and domaining in Australia at least.

It would be great to see more talk here about building out names, get more real start ups involved, success stories like the recent one from Josh Rowe and the ANZ bank buyout success etc.

The CIRA Election forum works very well, I've used it and found it excellent.

Your knowledge of the issues and your can do attitude makes you a good choice Ned.

I'm not a member, can I join in time to vote at the AGM ?

I believe it is too late for this year.

I have also heard AUDA has not been promptly approving applications for several months, apparently to prevent demand members suspected of being against .au from voting at the AGM.
