I am not sure they listened since the last SGM.

It appears after watching the Video not much has improved.

The .au wholesale price scam is a major rip off they had the chance to change but have chosen not to!

The new Wholesale Registry subcontractor Afilias offered a 60% lower wholesale price and won the new contract.

Now we have auDA and the Board deciding to keep most of this?

How is this fair for Supply Registrars, Resellers and the millions of .au domain name registrant owner consumers?

It was a rip off and now it is an even bigger rip off!

auDA Management and Board had the chance and they again stuck up their fingers to members, consumers and government. No more excuses.

If auDA cannot be managed within its means and with lower wholesale pricing due to the now obvious fact it could have been passed on then new management and board is required. No more excuses. No more lies and broken promises.

The auDA model seems to be broken.

I really do not know how it can be fixed.

A lot of different staff, directors, consultants, reports, investigations, consultations, reviews, surveys costing tens of $Millions over the years.

I know some people have really tried their best and put it an enormous amount of effort, time and money personally.. and maybe a few have not done much when they should and could have.

How can it be fixed? I am not sure the Government will come up with the answer's either... where does this leave management and the stability of the existing .au namespace and the future of the .au namespace?

Yet another review... what will change to fix the issues? They did the review years ago.. Just like Deloitte did their report years ago also...

auDA current Managements' Submission to Government
auDA Submission
Review of Australia's .au Domain Management (submission by .au Domain Administration Limited), December 2017

3.3. Fit-for-Purpose Governance in a Changing World (See Box 1 below)
  • In auDA's view, there can be tension between the current ownership model (and the resulting Board composition) and the purposes set out in auDA's Constitution, which largely reflect internet governance principles/ICANN obligations/Government expectations.
  • As key stakeholders, members have every right and expectation to participate in policy development, however, it does not necessarily follow that Board representation for the classes of members as set out in the existing Constitution is an appropriate or even preferred governance structure."

Well done to Josh, Jim & Paul for running this. I think it is the only way forward.

I hope something positive comes from it.

A stable and effective self-regulatory body is critical for the Australian Internet community and economy.

Let me tell you - I wish I could think of another way forward.
Jim, Josh and I are approaching this from vastly different perspectives. But we all share concerns about the current management of auDA and the future of .au.
I agree with Jim that we shouldn't tinker where it isn't necessary. Primum non nocere - do no harm. If it aint broke, don't fix it.

To be clear: no, I don't think we should go Amish and devoutly stick to the horse and buggy.
I am less concerned about changes that have / are occuring and more concerned about how it is happening.
Happy to discuss on DnT or privately.

auDA mutiny movement reaches critical mass

The trio today received a letter from auDA’s legal representatives Ashurst to say the body is considering the request for a general meeting.

“In the meantime, you are hereby on notice that any false, misleading, defamatory or otherwise unlawful statement which you make regarding auDA, or any of its directors or officers, is likely to result in damage to the organisation and/or relevant individuals and may result in litigation against you personally,” Ashurst lawyers wrote in their letter.

"the body is considering the request for a general meeting." Do they have a choice?

I hear a few people from auDA jumped on the planes to Canberra ...again.... (did they fly business class .. I hope they have chosen Economy now with the new auDA travel policy to reduce expenses?)

Is the Government waking up yet? Time will tell. The Government review is now overdue..

  • The review will examine and make recommendations on:
    • the most appropriate framework for the management of the .au top level domain
    • how to ensure that Government and community expectations inform auDA’s operation and decision-making,

Do they have a choice regarding the request for a meeting?
Well, no.
Our request had to satisfy 4 criteria (in addition to having the necessary numbers).
  • It had to be in writing;
  • It had to state proposed resolutions;
  • It had to be signed by Members making the request; and
  • It had to be given to the company.
We believe these requirements have been met.
auDA can still challenge the validity of the resolutions that we have proposed, but those are pretty straightforward.
