Ton of NNNN.com.au dropping - what's the value?

I see ton of NNNN.com.au domains dropping today. Who would have bought those, and what value could they possibly have had?
Perhaps someone expected Chinese interest, like there is the for the NNNN.com domains?

I think you're spot on about someone having misplaced Chinese aspirations. I wrote about this on Domainer today.

Expect no Chinese interest in these names, they only really go for .com, perhaps a NN in .net may get some interest but mostly they are seeking .com Our friend Snoopy had the number 40 listed here for a long time and had wait for any interest on this NN domain, not because of the number 4 Just because there is no real market for these in Australia

Not any more. Late last year 6N, 7N and LLNN .com domains without zero or 4 were liquid and easy to flip, with strings of eights adding to the value. This was fueled by the Chinese market and a large number of domain speculators jumping on the bandwagon. This market has crashed and anything that still holds value certainly isn't available for hand registration.

I wouldn't recommend playing in this market, however, if you decide to, make sure that you know the market. Diligently study current prices and not just outlier sales. I wouldn't go for anything longer than 5N and for an LLNN the NN would need to be 88.

That medical company is probably your only potential buyer for that domain at the moment. You could get lucky, but it's a lottery ticket.
I just checked on some numerics that have been for sale for a long time. The owners obviously can't sell them and they're asking less than half of what the liquid value was for these types of domains back in December.

Just saw a 7N .com ending in 88 for $2.60. Yes, that is a decimal point — two dollars and sixty cents, AUD. No takers.

Even if it had a year of reg left I think it's overpriced. Domain value = $0.
