Unusual domain sale request.

This afternoon I was contacted out of the blue about 2 domains. After a few emails back and forth, I received a first up offer of low-mid $x,xxx for 3 domains. From there a few more emails where exchanged, before settling on a sale price.

Naturally my attention then turned toward how best to settle the sale. Recently I have been using Netfleet due to the convenience, however the 8% commission is pretty exorbitant so I was keen to explore other options.

The buyer floated Escrow.com as an option, which I was happy to try (neither of us had used it), however before doing so I asked him if he'd purchased any domains before, in the hope that someone could vouch for me. That way we could do the transfer based on trust.

At this point, after establishing we are both in Melbourne, the buyer suggested that we meet so that he could pay me in cash! I thought this was a bid odd but agreed.

A short while later after further discussion he released he could just do a bank transfer.

So I know some more experienced members here have met with buyers in person to settle sales, just wondering if anyone has any advice? Specifically which registrars do instant transfers? It would be a bit awkward if we have to wait around for the domains to go through!

Hopefully it's not a trap to harvest my organs! :)

Both VentraIP and Netfleet CORs are virtually instant. Generally the only thing that slows Netfleet a little is credit card payment processing.

If going the escrow option. I would recommend escrowangel.com.au.

if you are the owner and have been approached then its up to them to take the risk ofo your honesty i think.

you have a domain linked to your abn, your name is on it as thats how they found you, so wouldn't even think of escow i'd just say " when the money shows up in my account i'll give you the auth key "

i don't do many but thats how i have done 2 without knowing the person, all my others have been with dntraders.

i think you take the high ground.

I've done exactly that in the past Tim, and I guess other business is conducted in such a manner. I do however find most buyers to be pretty green with domains, so I try and help them out a bit rather than just send the auth key. Mainly because in the past some buyers haven't done the COR, and I don't want Today Tonight knocking on my door if they do something dodgy :)

Based on the recommendations I have suggested EscrowAngel rather then a meetup, so I'll wait and see I guess.

once you settle on price you can ask them about cor, if they don't have a clue just say " how about i do it all for you and add $50 for fees" , i think most would be happy to pay especially if the total is mid xxxx.

story:

i recently had to do it for a client, they sold the business which included the website and they asked what needed to be done? i just said " give them my phone number" , the new owner rang me and i said the cor needs to be done and its $50, he hesitated and said " does it " ? , so i said " well if you don't then the guy you bought the business off can close the site ! "

DH, he just bought a business for 1/4 mil and couldn't find $50 !

anyway he paid
