Interesting, wish they would break it down between .com and .net as .net is in constant decline whilst .com is growing at a rate above the 3.7%.

The .com and .net TLDs had a combined increase of approximately 5.3 million domain name registrations, or 3.7 percent, year over year.

The cctld count is probably a bit dodgy this time with the .uk robo registrations perhaps accounting for 1.5 million names. Worth noting also that .au had dropped out of the Top 10 in the report.

The one which won't be a shock,

.com is pretty worthless with >40% parked..

Most of those probably owned by domainers like snoopy still trying to desperately pump and dump by starting fake 'news' threads such as this one

Dnjournal has done a good job of splitting the numbers. Very clear that alt tlds, even .net, are out of favour,

The bloke at the Farmers Market reckons that if the extension is not well recognised the keyword strength still wont matter much.

    au growth exceeds 20% YoY
    whereas .com is 5% YoY

    .au growth exceeds 4% QoQ
and .com a measly 1.3% QoQ

Someone should start a new thread:

    "Declining popularity of .com"

    simple MATH !
.com growth as a % can not exceed .com.au because of the current registrations of each, we have a pissy 3mil and .com ***mil?? no way you can compare them ans state "the decline of .com" ( and i'm not a fan of .com)

that smaller % i think without checking would relate to MASSIVELY more rego's then .com.au

so when comparing you need to use the right technique IMO.

The 20% growth claim for .au by Rhythm is made up are nonsense anyway.

.au has has a growth rate around 2% (black line on the graph)
