Registering the a name "for development" is bad idea.

Have often do we here this in the appraisal forum? "I bought this domain to create [insert some type of website]".

Yet when you look back at old appraisals thread hardly any of those names bought for development ever get developed. They sit there forever whilst the registrant registers dozens of other domains for the same reason. It is just an easy way of justifying a bad domain.

My own view is that if someone registers a domain then ask for an appraisal they will 99% chance never do anything with it. If they seriously bought it to develop then Instead of asking for an appraisal they would have actually started developing.

Lets cut through the BS on this issue, when someone claims a domain was bought for development it is likely complete nonsense!

Personally, I could not care less what anyone thinks a domain I own is worth. Are people secretly bragging about what they've registered, when they 'ask' for appraisals?

I've been actively online since the late 90's and I've come across so many know-it-alls, it makes me sick. 12 years ago, I had people tell me something wouldn't work, but it ended up paying for a new car. Who knew better?

I was first to register 888casino.com.au 9 odd years ago and people at the time and over the years told me I was stupid, saying that 888 would eat me up, that I'd get nothing...etc. The thing was, 888 didn't register the trademark until 2012 so I owned the right to it and they had to buy it off me. The leverage I had was 888 Holdings and Rank group were making a bid for William Hill, and I let Sedo know that I knew. It greatly improved the price I got. By the way, William hill rejected the final offer 2 days after a price was agreed upon. There's a non disclosure, so I can't discuss how much I got paid out.

Moral is, people shouldn't care less what others 'think'. Again, my opinion, if someone is too stupid to realise the value in something, why ask others what they think it's worth? It defeats the purpose of making the 'investment' in the first place doesn't it? If you find a good name, not just some made up BS, but a good quality name, that is product / industry specific and have an idea of what to run with, do it.

More often than not, seeking someone's validation over something like a domain name, can hinder a persons idea.

To borrow a phrase, Just Do It.

Yes snoop I agree
If one is going to develop a site, then develop it off site, and when it works, transport it to a DN
The dilemma is getting an evaluation on a DN you do not own yet.
So put it on a 99 cent name and wait for suggested alternatives in the appraisals.
A .crap should attract many evaluations from the generous evaluators
