"Poker sites are flush with Aussie players"

Good article in SMH.

NEARLY 130,000 Australians are playing illegal internet poker games, with US operators raking in $68 million in one year, according to research.

Online casino games, including poker, are illegal in Australia. But in May the federal government released an interim review of interactive gaming
laws which recommended legalising internet poker games as part of an overall liberalising of the industry. Other casino games would remain banned
and poker would be trialled over several years.

The article is not exactly true from my understanding. But would be nice to be able to promote these cash cows legally.

Mostly Euro operators. Ala pokerstars, ipoker network etc. Cake poker may still have some interest in the US but pretty sure they've moved as well. Fulltilt of course moved before it went bankrupt due to it's massive ponzi scheme.

I actually don't agree with legalising poker online in Australia. I actually think there should be tighter regulations as are in the US where the anti gaming (online) bill is attached to the anti terrorism bill.

Poker has had it's day in the limelight. The games are much tighter these days and the only people who have really stuck with it are the young professionals/grinders who will eat most players for breakfast. It is still possible to make a living off online poker but if you think swings from Google tilt you then you should try playing 8 -12 tables for 12 hours a day. It seriously fucks with you. I am so glad I don't play online anymore. That said I made about $20k in tournaments between 2007-2009 on the euro sites.

It is also way to easy to cheat/rig the game. It's been proven time and time again across the big sites. Basically it will never happen here.

I believe it's illegal for the sites to offer the service but not for the players to use the sites. In any case, the government should legalise it but keep their nose out of it other than collecting taxes. Leave the running of the sites to those that do it well (pokerstars).

I don't play any more (like helloworld said, it's not really +EV any longer) but I still read 2P2 for the drama and all the degen gambler talk.

It's illegal for sites based in Australia to offer online poker to Australian based players.

That's why Carbon Poker (once known as Poker.com) does not accept Australian based players.

It's also the reason the Poker Stars support office in Sydney do NOT answer the support requests from Australian based players either, but they are purely support for their international clients.

As we all know, they are looking at a trial change to this anyway.
