"Frank" observations!

I was just reading Frank Schilling's latest Seven Mile blog post, and a few things jumped out at me.

Bear in mind his references to selling domains are mostly in relation to SEDO and other bulk listing services.

  • Once you have a buyer on the line, you can sell any commodity at a low-dollar clearing price or you can hold out for the boutique value of your name.

  • Anybody can create a machine for burning your furniture.

  • If you’re in the diamond business and you are sitting on a pile of shiny rocks, you can either flood the market all at once at any price or you can fold your arms and let the buyers come to your price.

  • I don’t think wholesaling quality names is a road to prosperity. If you’re going to do $500 deals you’re better off applying for a new TLD and selling names at registration price.

  • Give away your best inventory and many of you will live to exhaust your money (and names).

I know I've sold a few names that I've had "seller's remorse" on. :(
.

The quality of his names is far higher than the average SEDO name, and unlike the average Sedo seller he has a business model that works, high quality names that sell consistently (though likely at a low rate) + parking revenue.

If those Sedo names were priced at $15k they'd get hardly any sales.

Interesting article.

Good sellers need to understand the power of “no”.

Good advice if you're dealing with high quality names and you can afford to do so.

Cheers,
Chris
