Cybersquatting and new GTLDs

An interesting point in that article is "...it costs a lot to register many of these domains".

Although that may be the case now, this could change over time.

I registered my first .com.au in 2003 for $66 (2 year rego), which is around $90 in today's money when you allow for inflation. The cost of a .com.au now from that same company I first dealt with in 2003 is just $34 for 2 years.

So mass-registrations using these new top level domains could possibly be more profitable in the future.

There will definitely be lots of price dropping but after the initial launch it is all over quality wise.

Agree that squatting isn't going to work very well with hundreds of new tlds.
