"A functional constituency is a potential membership model recommended in the government’s report (see recommendation 10)
Organisations might include the likes of Internet Australia, Communications Alliance, Australian Computer Society (ACS), Australian Information Industry Association (AIIA), Australian Communications Consumer Action Network (ACCAN), Telecommunications Association (TELSOC), Australian Web Industry Association (AWIA), AARNET, APNIC, and CAUDIT. "
Might they also include small business groups. I mean they are the largest group of stakeholders who actually pay for domains.
Does anybody really want a General Patton making decisions?
Internet Australia and ACCAN are on record as being against domain monetisation. This policy issue will be exploited by the politicians and there will be ongoing horse trading.
Essentially politics will rule. A single membership system will allow members to vote more freely without interference.
Imagine a Eurovision contest where the best performance was allowed to win.
Agree, the CMWG is run by Cameron Boardman (not members) and auDA's board has reportedly stacked the membership with 500+ fake foreign members. They still reuse to update the membership list because they know what they have done is highly unethical. Let's see if the try to make it to the SGM without updating that list.
Members need to now work together to remove the management who have attempted to remove the membership base and push through their own self serving reforms (increased directors fees, changing membership procedure to to stack and save their jobs, capturing most of the cost of a domain for themselves).
