150k UNIQUES per month

Hi All,

I own www.cargames.com.au

It's #1 in Google AU on the term and 2nd on .com (from AU) so still room to improve, plenty of long tail I am chasing as well.

(Before the critics come out I know I need to add some more content to the site etc and this is in progress esp on category pages)

This is a MASSIVE search term and gets in excess of 150k Unique Visitors per month.

The domain itself is a category killer, plus super generic.

Let's say it makes 15k a year.

What's it worth? (BTW - not looking to sell)

i am wondering how does it make money , do you play at a free level and then pay for a better level ? seems like it would keep visitors busy for while , value i don't know sorry

Youd be looking at about 8-12 months revenue as it is just a flash games site. Im sure that the eCPM is quite low for flash games sites

That is roughly the kind of multiples I saw when I was looking at these types of sites.

My gut feeling is a domain type person would pay more because of the domain it is on. Especially with the "boom" in the domain market for games related names.

The main thing is though that it is likely entirely dependant on that Google ranking so paying a high multiple is very risky.

Personally I think a couple of years revenue.

So essentially you guys who are saying 8-12 months are valuing the site sub 15k? (Except for Snoopy who is at 2x)

OnlineGames.net.au went for how much on Drop? Undeveloped. No traffic. No ranking. .NET.au

VS

CarGames.com.au - 135k exacts. Developed. #1. 150k+UV's Category Killer .com.au .....

is only worth 2-3 times OnlineGames.net.au is?

Your website ranks 10th in US google, not 2nd.

I tested overall + 10 states and it is the same rank on all.

In terms of wealth, hard to call, I know game properties do not usually bring in the big dollars unless you have the right buyer. The guys behind the Cooking games.com purchase may have the cash to pay 8 years parked wealth, yet in the AU market it is all about finding the end users.

Sorry I read that you said it was second in .com, I am heavily involved in the US market so I instantly think US ranks.

If you are referring to .com and .com.au domain using Australia IP your website ranks 1st on both.

I would always report on ranks using the paid search preview tool, due to the high personalization rate on Google.

It sold for 5k (onlinegames.net.au) so someone is paying that for potential. I think a good developer could turn that into something earning maybe 5k a year or more, so maybe it is not a bad price.

Regarding cargames.com.au the search stats are somewhat similar depending on which measure you use, revenue wise though it looks to be already there. It just don't think you are going to find people will pay big multiples for these sites, but will pay a significantly higher multiple than for a site on a non premium name. The current "boom" centers around the actual domains because I think people think they can make their money back in a year or so with development. Development itself is highly automated for these names, though I think ranking is still very difficult. Obviously .com.au is miles ahead of .net.au generally but I do wonder if these names are seen mainly as SEO chips and brand etc seen as very much secondary. Whereas most people wouldn't touch a .net.au generally I think it is very different here.

Personally sold freegames.net for $75k recently, had 3 different people quite serious about it over a 6 months period which is extremely unusual for a name (actually I've never experienced that level of interest in any name previously) personally though it was a good time to cash in the chips whilst interest levels were so high after other recent sales/dnjournal stories.

Personally I tried my hand and developing it (after it started getting increased interest) and didn't do so well, got it to about page 3 and the traffic doubled though still a fraction of parking earnings.

social and "casual" gaming is one of the fastest growing markets.. although the focus seems to be more on women gamers

Yes, I just bought in to www.dishoftheday.com.au for this very reason. Social Competitions is the next big thing IMO.

Billy01 - Unique visitors as per Google Analytics.

Snoopy - Congrats on your sale. Excellent price.

I dont believe my site is worth 100k by all means. I think realistically I should be able to achieve a sale price of $50k should I choose to sell it for a variety of reasons.

The site is not earning as much and TBH, this probably due to my lack of knowledge in the gaming arena, but Im quickly learning. I have just had a game developed and will start distributing this to all the BIG US sites and hope to achieve a 1-2% CTR of those who play the game. This could significantly increase my traffic and again revenue.

Anyway. Thanks for all the feedback. Appreciated.

I wonder if it is is worth putting it out there to see what kind of offers you get? Obviously it is going to be hard to get any precise answer from that but it might give a good indication of whether than market might pay 15k or 50k.
