.au domain charges for names you do not own?

Yep, spot on. auDA charge all parties who have contested the domain name an annual fee. Until one party either doesn't renew or they withdraw their application, it will remain contested.

No, not at all. If you want definitive advice, Cooper Mills are a great place to start.

    cityworks.com.au

The domain name cityworks.com.au dropped a few days ago. I'm wondering why it dropped though as it only recently transferred to the previous owner as part of an auDRP outcome. Why would they go after the domain name, only to let it lapse again shortly after?

    koala dropping?

I did a double take when I first saw it. My only real question is why is it dropping?

    .au direct renewals

Given the low holding cost, it's worth the bet to hold premium .au domains on the off-chance you'll get a buyer in the next 10 years. I wouldn't bother with holding anything other than premium unless it's an exact match of a .com.au that you already own. I personally see little value in using...

    Direct .au contested names

That sounds great :) Does anything like this happen for when a .au token is linked to a domain that changes registrant or is purged from the registry? For example, let's say domainer.au is contested as both owners of domainer.com.au and domainer.net.au both have a priority token. If the owner...

    Contested au domains

Yeah, it's 12 months, more info on the auDA site at https://www.auda.org.au/au-domain-names/au-direct/priority-allocation-process

    Contested au domains

AFAIK, the .au direct applications are valid for 12 months from the date of your application so it'll depend on when you submitted each one.

IMHO, they're not worth more than the registration fee.

    Direct .au contested names

The way I read it in section 1.9.11 (b) of the implementation rules (https://www.auda.org.au/policy/auda-rules-au-direct-priority-implementation), you will need to retain the underlying eligibility:

    What's the go with go.com.au?

I've been checking some domains on the priority status tool auDA provide for the new direct .au registrations, one of those was go.au. All extensions for go are returned as Declined: The domain appears to be a reserved name according to auDA policy. The only clause I can see it matching in...

Nearly lost a domain due to eligibility [storytime]

The anonymous complaints process really should be changed. I can't see any reason for any one to lodge a complaint, other than attempting to get it to dropped from the registry. Glad you got it sorted!

Given the wide audience for the tool, WCAG compliance should be a top priority.

    gday (.com.au and .net.au)

On face value, it looks like someone wants to get their hands on gday.com.au and gday.net.au via auDRP. They're registered to different entities now, but may have been the same entity in the past as .net.au was redirected to .com.au for many years.

SynergyWholesale email .au Domain Eligibility - Action Required

As far as I know, no. They are however required to verify eligibility details at renewal time, so they appear to be getting in early and helping registrants sort out any potential issues before it's too late.

    Facebook AU News Ban

Building a business that relies on any social media platform, or any platform for that matter (free or paid), is not necessarily a bad idea, it's simply a calculated risk. If FB pulled the plug tomorrow completely, it would be an immaterial change, the world doesn't need FB.
