Where is the safest place to store and sell domains?

Hi All,

I've been burnt by GoDaddy multiple times now, and I'm really REALLY sick of them.

The only reason why I had my domains with them was to make it easier to list on Afternic and access the reseller market better.

What other tips and tricks do you recommend for a novice domain investor like myself to handle this process better?

Thanks

- Cam

Godaddy may be a PITA, but this is by far the best reason to stick with them. Nowhere else will give you the same exposure as their inline registration sales path.

I tend to think if someone wants your name, they will type it in and go from there, if the name is via Sedo they will buy it that way, perhaps the name is at Dynadot, they also offer a marketplace. Some folk use Dan .....etc etc. Main thing is that there is a link to purchase on the parking/sales page, good luck

The best place to store and sell names is with an Australian based company that understands auDA policies, provides an auDA compliant monetisation/parking solution and has Australian based domain brokers.

Yes a little biased but that only leaves Drop and Above as your go to place.

As for listing on Afternic, definitely still do that, but you do not need to have your names at Godaddy registrar to do that.

Also keep in mind that with .au you need to do a CoR which is not the case for .com names and this tends to be neglected by non AU based registrars. Many names have changed ownership buy the CoR were never done which creates long term issues so make sure you always check after a sale is done that the CoR is also done.

For clarity, this applies to com/net/org (rather than au) domains registered with Godaddy and listed at Afternic. These appear as a purchase option at GoDaddy if someone tries to register them.

From my time at Dark Blue Sea, Godaddy were by far the biggest domain sales partner by volume and $ of all secondary market platforms for the (non au) portfolio that we managed.

Don't have your au domains at godaddy!

Thanks Andrew, for .au definitely best to use an AU focused registrar and marketplace. For .com Afternic/Godaddy do a great job.
