When will the new .au wholesale price be disclosed?

People know the Afilias pricing!

Let's see some serious pricing drop for Registrars and Resellers!

auDA and auDA Foundation has more than enough with $21 million in the bank and they need to cut their fees all together!

No they don't...
Registrars pay the wholesale fee - domain owners pay a retail fee.
Do you also know how much your weetbix costs wholesale?

Auda is a membership organisation and it is accountable to the Australian people. This isn’t Kellogg’s.

Of course domain owners are paying these fees, they are passed through.

Is Kellogs a membership organisation with us as members?

Does Kellog's have the same Constitution as auDA and requirements from the Commonwealth relating to consumers and pricing?

Didn't auDA previously release this information?

Wouldn't it benefit auDA to show they negotiated a better contract and they got 60% lower pricing? They should be telling everyone of this success not covering it up to keep the extra profits among themselves.

Does anyone else have a copy of the audio and paperwork / presentations from the December auDA/ Afilias Supplier day where pricing was discussed and how to maintain certain pricing and keep it quiet, auDA to do advertising with the money instead of lowering their auda and foundation fees etc?

Latest update I have in relation to the date is it will be announced the end of March 2018
I was in the Dec meeting and while there was no specific instructions I don't think I am allowed to talk about specifics yet. There was no paperwork at the time and digital copies are not going to be provided even for those of us with a hazy recall of the evening who where there.

I for one would prefer them not to publish the price but this kind of thing will get out anyway so I figure they may as well make it public.

Do members really have a right to know the Registry Operator portion?
Surely members are only entitled to know the auDA side?
Purely theoretical discussion obviously it is the kind of thing that would get out anyway.

Are you a supply side representative?
Domain owners have a right to know the new pricing.
Why? What is the benefit?
I dpn't care about wholesale pricing the only thing I care about is what I have to pay for the service I get.

Kellogs is a public company and accountable to it's shareholders.

You keep linking to the ACCC and anti competitive behaviour.
Maybe you should actually read the documents to which you refer.
How is it possible to be anti-competitive when you have no competitors and never will have?

  • Afilias has won the contract with 60% lower pricing. No use anyone trying to hide it.

  • auDA has $21 million in the bank. They are a "not for profit" and they have and continue to make a hell of a lot of profit.... even after massive expenses over the years they could have reduced.
  • It is questionable if the Trustee for the auDA Foundation should remain a valid Foundation etc..
  • It was and remains a requirement of Commonwealth Government that auDA was actually to set pricing based on registered domain numbers. As .au numbers increased pricing was supposed to be reduced. This obligation has been breached. ( We now have this hard evidence)
  • are auDA members shareholders?

You appear to have made a massive mistake with supporting the direct .au thinking it was going to work out some way you would have no problems and benefit from and I hope you can admit that now as others have. Many people where misled. It's ok to admit it also and I think a lot of people will applaud you when you do it like Robert Kayy has done.

I was told " don't worry it will go to the .com.au owners and 2 years Free to see if you like it then drop it if you don't think its worth while". I believed it also as those people where at auDA and auDA Board Directors. I still knew it was a bad idea and why. Now look where we are! Chaos created by poor auDA management process.
Please don't make the same mistake on wholesale and consumer pricing. We have all been ripped off while Ausregistry, Neustar and auDA got rich with massive profits off the .au wholesale pricing. It has been reported foreign owned Neustar Inc USA was making $5 profit for every .au. That is profit and excluding Ausregistry etc. You are better than that and you may soon realise more of us are on the same team than opposed to each other.

Transparency, seems to be a hard concept for auDA to understand.

It's a public asset they manage and it's in the public interest to know it's being managed appropriately. Knowing the cost is a key piece of info to guage that.

Remember the how auDA thought the exclusive deal with Ausregistry was a good deal.

Transparency protects us from shitty decisions by the board.

Yep, little doubt it have been a 20 cents discount or something extremely trivial like with past contract renewals and Auda would have claimed it was a world class deal and that the price is competitive.

Registrants having been paying more than double the true market rate, it looks like Auda hopes to keep going with the overcharging even though the registry price has dropped like a rock with the tender. AUDA is now formulating how they can keep as much money for themselves as possible after their attempt to grab the registry profits was spurned by members via the SGM.

The price of a .com.au should be $3-$4 per year.

Repeat after me: "Not-For-Profit does not mean no money in the bank"
That money sitting in the bank isn't profiting anyone - if it was - it would already be gone (Which, ironically - some people here would be OK with because then there's no money in the bank)

If auDA came out and said "Wholesale cost is now 0.75 per year" there would STILL be complaints here.

"A not-for-profit can make a profit, but any profit made must be used for its purpose(s). It can keep profits as long as there is a genuine reason for this and it is to do with its purpose. For example, a good reason to keep profits may be to save up for starting a new project, building new infrastructure or accumulating a reserve so it continues to be sustainable."

AUDA has been stacking cash away for years with no purpose, business has been paying double what they should be.

I would also suggest that some of that money has been improperly used in the past which is the basis of the PPB Report.
