Cheers Ned, interesting they highlight the removal of minutes in particular.

The Board made the decision in May 2017 to remove minutes from the auDA website, stating publishing was ‘not best practice governance’. These were subsequently restored following the Special General Meeting in July.

i was reading NOT SKIMMING the governments discussion paper again today and i thought i'd give some advice in a neutral form.
https://www.communications.gov.au/file/32286/download?token=m3VngNMO
firstly its 14 pages long so dedicate some time but do that soon as you have 14 days to go.
its a very important review, one that will have multiply submissions we hope and all sides of the story need to be told as we most likely will not have another for at least 3 years? at a guess.
i like "the big picture first" style of learning, so if you are the same skip straight to the last page and read the questions the gov are asking.
i personally don't feel you need to answer all questions, if you only have suggestions or concerns for some questions then at least submit them, DO NOT be turned off by the amount of time it would take to complete a well thought out full submission, just do what you can, the more submissions the better the government will understand the broader view of people who have a stake hold in the industry.
tell a friend, its your duty to inform a stakeholder who may not know about the review.
and finally, if you do not make a submission, don't whinge about what happens next.
--------------
if you have already made a submission then consider posting it here so other can see aspects you feel need pointing out and that others haven't thought of, OR pm it to me as i'd love to read them all and i will not make comment on them.
-----------
i've tried to stay away from words like good, bad etccc as i am trying to go the positive on this and i feel every ones viewpoint is a positive no matter what it is.

I think this is right. From a domainer perspective I suspect some people could be put off by questions about corporate governance principles and security issues.

I think the main issues personally are the questions in the Stakeholder Engagement & Membership sections. (questions 10 to 15)

People should just answer as they see fit.

Important reading. It shows the auDA management to date have not listened about properly contacting and engaging all existing .au registrants about the proposed additional competing .au extension.

auDA Management and Board had the chance to contact all registrants and should have done it.. The Government needs to review why this never occurred and who made the decisions to not contact existing registrants.

It is my opinion the people responsible need to be removed from auDA or the Board. Let's see what the government does or others.

It is Not Accountable and Not Transparent to have not contacted all existing registrants. An obvious failure and deliberate choice.

"Why haven't I heard about this before?
"That's not really surprising, since Nominet has no plans to ask individual domain registrants what they think of their proposal. Indeed, they claim that to do so would expose them to charges of spamming. By limiting their request for feedback to the 2,800 Nominet Members, it's like getting farmers to vote on Christmas without asking the turkeys..."

This was the same B.S. some people had used at auDA before... Now they are gone the new Board better change routes and go back a step before they implement a disaster... as the extra .uk and .nz extensions have now factually shown to be!.. They ended up having to give them away FREE in the .uk!!

Yep, lots of parallels between Nominet and AUDA.

Nominet were happy to contact all registrants once it was time to sell .co.uk owners a .uk. The spam claim is simply a dodge by AUDA so they can avoid the the public backlash that would happen and skip straight to bringing it in.

Hey I'm Stuck on a question;

WTF is auDA Board arrangements and how do we find out if its effective - or do we just invent something to say?

Q. Do the current board arrangements support auDA in effectively delivering its roles and responsibilities?
Or, do they mean to say;
A. Do dodgy backdoor deals work effectively in fleecing members and the Australian consumers? YES.

As a member, saying that "I dont know whether current Board arrangements are effective or not!" is useful insight for the Dept.
Up to you how much you read in to the current status quo and convey to the Dept.

In terms of the Dept's broader goals, I assume they mean - how well are current arrangements balancing director skill sets, appropriately and broadly representing the "community", providing the best possible leadership for .au?

Obviously, I wont provide any comment on possible responses.

yeah, I shouldn't be facetious over lack of transparency.

I think you nailed it, its more like composition of Board Skills (Skill Matrix Compliance) and how that translated into proper operation of the company and to the satisfaction of stakeholders. i.e. Do the elected Directors represent a broad view of the industry or a narrow view...etc

hmmm..it is worded strangely. Board arrangements?
