Moving on.. Hosting recommendations?

I'm downsizing and looking for a recommendation for a small VPS.

Any recommendations?

I no longer need to host my clients websites and am looking for a cheap option to host around 6 sites. Most get little traffic but one is fairly intensive.

Price is a factor as none are making any money at the moment.

What other requirements do you have?
  • OS?
  • Control panel?
  • VM backups or just site level backups?
  • Australia or overseas?
  • Managed or unmanaged?

I like WHM/cPanel
I can do site level backups.
Any location
Unmanaged is ok as long as they do the setup.

If price is the pain point, I'd go with someone like DigitalOcean (no AU) or Vultr. They won't setup WHM for you but they've got OS templates with it already installed, you just need to configure and add the license.
If you want Australian, there are heaps of choices like Servers Australia, Web24 (not 100% Australian anymore), DigitalPacific, Exigent, Crucial, VentraIP, Fluccs, Micron21, and more.
Some companies offer an additional setup service to install and configure everything and then you take over.

Looking for a new host as well, have checked out the above though haven't found the right fit. Exigent looks cheap, but seem to have a some reliability issues (hard to gauge if this is common with them or not). Still I'm inclined to give them a try.

Any other suggestions, looking to spend around $7 per month, cpanel, multiple add-on domains (about 10), reliable with decent support. I've been using Ventraip for quite a long time but have a particular technical issue that I can't seem to resolve with them so looking for something similar.

i'm now fully hosted with netvirtue and have found them exceptional, whm, cpanel all the familiar stuff, service desk EXCELLENT,
they run lightspeed? litespeed? servers so i had some minor compatibility issues with some plugins but all fixed now
both phone and ticket 24/7
not the cheapest but i think worth it, melb and syd servers

I just signed up with net virtue this morning. They seem to be very popular on whirlpool. Around $5 per month for the account I got. I forgot to use the coupon code though

Which plan are you guys on at NV?

I'm going to sign up tonight and use the 50% off code. Looking at locking in 3 years, might as well for 50% off. Just want to be sure they are solid.

I'd hate to sign up for 3 years and leave after 3 months.

i'm VERY happy with them.
i'm on "reseller platinum" i got it last year for $99 a month and they haven't change the price for me, if they do it won't worry me enough to move as i have 200 websites hosted so my profit is good.
i've actually been pondering to purchase another plan as well , where is the 50% code? ohhh found it, its in business not reseller.

I'm no longer building or managing external websites. I took a job on a service desk and loving it. It's so good to be able to clock off at the end of the day.

I've used DigitalOcean, Bluehost, Crazy, NetReg and Godaddy over the years. BH was cheapest but had quite a bit of downtime/updates/maintenance. I currently use GD for most of my personal sites and have no complaints. Might check out NV too!
We use AWS for our corporate sites - but we outsource the management of our tech/sites, so I can't personally comment on it... except that it's pretty expensive o_O

I think the Economy Plan from Wholesale Synergy (EW5) is pretty good.
Monthly Cost $7.45
EW5
10GB Disk Space
Unlimited Bandwidth
Unlimited Addon Domain
Unlimited Parked Domain
Unlimited MySQL Databases

Either Melbourne or Sydney.
VentraIP have a similar plan,

Economy PLUS
$12.95 /mo AUD

20GB Cloud Storage Space
Unlimited Monthly Bandwidth
Unlimited Addon Domains
Unlimited Parked Domains

But what I don't like about WS is that it doesn't go into detail about what the server is, like how many cores, what os, ram, etc. Ventra do cover this, but their Cpanel version is 62 which is outdated, and doesn't include all the new features like auto ssl with lets encrypt. Unless they've manually added it to it though!

I have my domains there but always had issues with VentraIP hosting. Synergy would be no different. I've taken the Net Virtue option for 3 years. Hopefully it does the trick. Thanks for everyones suggestions.

I do know that NV use Synergy for their domain wholesaler, I really hope they are not just selling Synergy's hosting too.

Time will tell :)

They definitely used to, but I'm not sure anymore. I think they have their own racks now. Everyone resells from someone!
