ATO cancelled an ABN they assumed I wasn't using it has 1 old domain attached to it that I would prefer not to lose. I have tried initiating cor (ventra) however there is no option. I have sent them a support ticket to ask but wondering if anyone else has had this experience? What happens next?

I have used ventraIP in the passed. If you log into the control panel, expand domains, click on manage and click on the domain in question. Are you not seeing icons in which one is "Initiate CoR"? Once you click on this, you will be asked to confirm and you need to make a payment before they start the process.

I don't think your CoR issue has anything to do with the fact that your ABN has been cancelled.

nah the option is not available as the ABN is cancelled. They responded and advised I need to prove the original owner is still alive with a drivers license etc. Good to know for future reference

Wow. well, that is good to know. Learn something new every day.
And also good you know you are still alive as the "original owner". :D

This also affected myself and several of my clients.
I have been lodging tax returns under my business name / ABN for 14 years.

For some reason the ATO decided to cancel my ABN which affected a domain transfer that was in limbo thanks to this hair-brained -half-witted govco decisions.

A 15 minute phonecall later they "re-enabled my ABN" and said someone would be in touch to make sure I was still eligible to hold an ABN.

This shit has to stop.

Hey, was your transfer successful in the end? I need to transfer a domain name from someone else, but her Abn was cancelled.

Probably another reason why the ABN requirement needs to go.

Totally agree. I bought the business, and the business had changed hand many times. I found the original owner, but she had cancelled the ABN. Now I am I'm fear of my domain name will be deleted, and my business will be greatly affected.

Not a good reason at all.
There are about 4 people on DNtrade out of MILLIONS of Australian domain name holders who want the ABN requirement gone.
Big deal.
Stop tacking your own agenda onto other people's problems.
And they are problems.
The correct thing to do is, be professional enough NOT to let your ABN lapse in the first place, like most other professional Australian business people.

Anyway, It was transferred successfully. No additional requirements.

The ABN rule would have cost .com.au hundreds of thousands of registrations that would have gone to .com instead.

.org.au has similar problems in that legitimate registrants are often blocked but fraudsters are allowed in.
