I'm not a fan of the new gTLDs, but that's a great example of a good 'span the dot' domain

I think span the dot terms is where the new gTLDs work best.

Love the latest Gtlds. Seeing some good increases in click through rates when swapping from a .com.au.
Is the extra click through rates from Australian users or spammers from overseas that fill up your analytics account with rubbish data? I guess it depends on the type of business you are running.

There has only ever been two .florist domain sales recorded in the aftermarket and this is the highest (the previous one was18 months ago), that is out of 2700 registered domains.

People are wasting their time trying to make money out of crap like this. For every $2500 sale people will be spending $50,000 on renewing other similar names. The renewal looks to be $70. It is not profitable to be renewing names at $70 and selling them to endusers for $2500.

If I was a Sydney florist I'd pay that for sure. It's one of the few new extensions that work well like this.

On the other hand, I wouldn't pay much at all for florist.sydney

It's still going to be a long road for them in terms of getting people to understand their domain name in any form other than a clickable link.

I submit that this is because you are a domainer, not a florist!

Ask some florists what they will pay for melbourne.florist, I guarantee a bemused look rather than an offer being made. The chance of a florist paying anything much for a .florist is very low, as can be seen in the number of aftermarket sales reported, a total of 2. What has happened to everyothercityintheworld.florist?

Lightening just struck but lets remember what is getting reported here, we are all rushing to the patch of burnt grass where the lightening hit, then coming to the conclusion that a lightening strike here was always likely.

I'm not a domainer, but I know what you mean and agree. It's just because I know the value of a great descriptive domain for a business, and as you said, most florists (and other business owners) generally don't.

I tend to agree. I built out a domain that I thought was great for the market it was in and contacted all potential end users and couldn't get a bite at all. Not even for a fully developed website thrown in at a low price $500.

I ended up convincing a mate to take a "Chance" and take the leads the site was generating and now he's quit his full time job and works 100% from the website leads.

The problem will always be the end users have no idea, no freakin' idea at all.

I am embracing new gTLDs
I suspect the original registrant of Sydney.florist paid approx.$usd1100.00 to register it.

Do you remember it selling or is that based on similar names?

Saw one mentioned the other day on domain sherpa, i.rent (the owner submitted it as part of a portfolio to be appraised). It turned out the owner (a domainer) had paid $9000 which is a pretty wild price to pay in the hope of resale. I don't think there is any money to be made paying $1000 for a name and hoping to sell it to an enduser for double that.

I remember SFA
It was a guess based on asking prices for similar new gTLD registrations.
How does anyone know that the aftermarket of new gTLDs is not being manipulated by vested interests?

The way I see this is that for every year added I add the registration cost.
