JUST .nz

Oh I can't wait to see what this involves..

Will be Conflicted – which means this .nz domain name has been registered in at least two second levels and so its registration at the second level needs to go through a conflicted process (an online tool is being developed to handle these types of .nz domain names).

i find it interesting that although i own a few .co.nz's i have never received information about this.

I own about a dozen NZ domains (two of which generate decent NZ revenue) and I haven't heard about it either.

Pretty poor communication!

But having done a bit of reading today I'm looking forward to the change.

All but one of mine are 'PRR' meaning that I'll have rights to the name.

One is 'Conflicted', but it's a net.nz that was registered much later, so I don't have anything to lose really.

SEO might be the biggest issue, assuming that I move the existing sites over to the new .nz domains.

seo will be a big issue and just to workshop this thread, this thread is a good way to have an opinion on the different challenges the .nz post .co.nz businesses will face.

i think its going to be "walking on ice when spring is coming" .......... do i or don't i ?

move or not move?

what about duplicate content from having 2 sites? will the 301 redirects keep my rankings? but i have 1000 pages on my .co.nz ?

all things the UK and now the NZ are facing, so now is the time to find out the solutions should it come to AU

i'm glad i don't own 10,000 domains !

as for this http://anyname.nz/ , get ready for this type of smiley faced propaganda coming to an AU near you

Are you going to buy and hold both versions of each domain? Doubles the holding cost?

I am tempted to not but the .nz then whoever snaps it up try and sell the .co.nz to them...

They're giving no preference to second level extension or age of registration:

"I registered my .nz domain name first, why can't I get the new, shorter version?

For reasons of fairness, where there is more than one Registrant competing for a .nz domain name to be registered directly at the second level the Domain Name Commission does not believe preference could be given to the oldest registration.

Similarly, the Domain Name Commission does not believe one second level should have preference over any other. For example, the Registrant of anyname.co.nz should not be treated differently to the Registrant of anyname.school.nz.

instead of "hitting the nail on the head, you just bent the nail"

what will happen is the new .nz owner won't give a s^^T about the OLD .co.nz and not reply to your calls or email.

i was talking today with a NZ client of mine and he said there is no way he won't be buying the new .nz to protect his business.

he is already talking about the co.nz redirection so letting someone BUY your present .co.nz's isn't going to work IMO

they will just ignore you

thankfully i only have 3 .co.nz's

its a money grab and i will mostly die saying it. i think everyone now knows where i stand and its getting boring

tim, just wish some people would speak out as well !

.... Domain Name Commission does not believe preference could be given to the oldest registration.

god help us it this type of stupidity comes to AU, if dubbodentist.com.au was registered 15 years ago and then auda tell australia they are moving to just .au ( although we know auda won't do that as they don't inform anyone except members of what they are doing and simply disregard the other MILLIONS of domain name owners even though part of their domain renewal fee goes to auda so you would expect at least some kind of service? maybe a xmas card ! )

back to the story.

so some person goes and applies for dubbodentist.au and actually has A CHANCE of getting it against the dentist who has had the name for 15 years !!!!!!!!!! how stupid.

this is what i keep talking about...sorry. YES, i am looking after ME, and my clients, PLEASE see i am also looking after you, the domainer, investor, developer.

its the tsunami coming your way.

i see it as "stop it" or " sell out NOW "

auda elections are coming, its to late to join and vote and hopefully it they won't start the progression soon, so bloody join now so you have a vote next time.

no, there is no TIM affiliate auda link to join  if you have $$$ invested in domains then pay attention to what is happening, if you can't see it i must be incredibly brilliant

from other dnt posts on this subject people in the know and posts on auda they suggest they are not heading down this path, auda read more then they post, so post your opinion.

I am sure many domainers and developers and small businesses and corporations who have invested in .au would like to see auDA adopt a fair process.

.nzDNC is doing it fairly and intelligently. They have obviously put a lot more thought into this than previous .ccTLDs

Yep. Two of the domains generate sufficient revenue to ensure the increased holding cost is insignificant.

Also, I'm not a speculative domainer who relies on low reg fees. If reg fees tripled I'd still hold onto the vast majority of my domains.

I'd rather not pay extra of course, but I think the new shorter domains are more than worth it.

I agree. Whoever registered the name first should have the first option.

It's not quite as bad as you might think though.

Under the NZ system someone would have had to register a 'dubbodentist' variation before the initial consultation back in 2012, so the good news is that you won't have people coming in after the announcement trying to muscle in.

The only way you could not secure dubbodentist.nz is if someone speculated on dubbodentist.net.nz before any initial consultation or announcement.

I think that's a pretty fair way of doing things.

Where I don't think it's fair is where one business registered their co.nz in say 2002 and have branded their business using the domain, then someone else has registered the net.nz sometime prior to 2012.

Why the person who registered the net.nz domain ten years later should have any right to the .nz is beyond me.

I was lucky with all of my co.nz domains that no one had registered any of the alternatives before the cutoff date.

What about expired and caught domain names.

I have a couple of nice .co.nz's I picked up on the drops, if these are classed as new rego's then the .net.nz might trump me.
