I may be wrong but i think the chinese government took the first 20,000 of that total

.flights may help airlines but not one for the domainers imo

Fair enough; this is how I see it below...

Existing Examples:
webjet.com.au/flights‎
travel.com.au/flights‎
wotif.com/flights‎
expedia.com.au/Flights

Now:
webjet.flights
travel.flights
wotif.flights
expedia.flights

stuff like book and bookings, buy and quote may suit the extension but very limited for the average domainer, sure to avoid,

You can grab wedding.cheap for only $240 (dounuts premium name) renewal will be the same as well, if not to your taste you can grab wedding.bargains for only $118

Hehe, rings.cheap...? or something like flights.cheap be the way these domainers are thinking?

Still trying to get my head around it, it still seems a bit backwards to me.

'Relax honey, i've just booked our big day at wedding.cheap

I like Tonys comment on Ricks blog. "The people that made the real riches during the gold rush were the ones selling the shovels and maps."

Some of the domains will work. Brand is brand. I'd say some will be successful and may even buy the .com. But yea. .com will still be king for a long time to come

Haha, a comment from that page

The cabal of the ig market places in action.

Domainers are the most foolish set of investors I have ever seen.

The Registrars drop catch domain names, and sell them at thousands to domainers.

The Market places conspire with Registries and retail names at thousands, and hundreds of thousands to domainers

The Domain Bloggers trumpet their daily sales.

It’s a big joke.

The Domainer is the clueless idiot that keeps them all in business. While they cut the domainer out of the food chain.

If the Domainer thinks for a minute, and boycott of them, they will all fold.

So, stop complaining Zournas, you are the end user. There are no set prices for end-users, it could be as high as the domainer wants, sorry Registry.

seems the small percentage of domainers that welcomed the new gtlds will be expected to carry the load while the registrars go for the big bucks, most end users would not even know these extensions exist though ??

i noticed hire.photography was about $40 one day then was repriced to $200 or more

Good on them :)

I avoid the spotlight. I've only reserved one gTLD which is quite obscure, outside the box thinking for a Niche that wouldn't be completely obvious. It is a .zero and it will be mine... hahaha

From what I can see it is about 1/3 who are investing (looking at polls on domain blogs), so I don't think it is small %. That probably doesn't include people on the outside of the industry who get involved.

As far as as expecting domainers to carry the load, they are going into it of their own free will because they think they will make a profit.

Think of it like people playing the lottery. Yes the lottery knows those people are fools who are collectively going to lose millions but that is the game, tell them they could get rich and watch them get poorer, it is a cash transfer from one side to another.

Haha, it isn't a trademarked .zero :p I'm not quite that uneducated.

As I said, it is a Niche. Plus I will be developing a site for it, so it isn't really the same as sitting on a domain for the dollars.
