Would you buy 1 domain for $2000 or would you rather buy 100 domains at regfee?

i think the Australian market has demonstrated that over the last six months it has begun to mature and that a quality name is now desirable which would mean the $2000 name would be the best bet

depends on the names of course. But often better to spend more on the single better name than waste money on reg fees and renewal costs!

Quality over quantity.

Better to get one good name, rather than lots of mediocre ones.

With that said, if you can pick out the good ones, fresh registrations can still pay off.

I wish I had bought a lot less and a lot higher quality when I first got into this. At least my returns have paid for my 'learning curve', unfortunately that's not the case for many.

Typically the $2000 name. Reg fee names are very hard to make money on, easy to just waste the entire amount spent. It needs several hours of research on each name in my view, going through thousands of alternates.

I think pre 2010 - handing regging 100 domains would have been OK. These days anything that hasn't been hand regged isn't really worth it from a domaining perspective.

That said, I think 10 x $200 domains back in 2010 would have been your best bet (spread the risk but still have reasonable quality) - that's still probably the best strategy.

I think the 200 names is far more risky, it is more something for a very experienced domainer to try in my view. I guess the irony is this is how most people new to the industry start.

It is $2000 per year for a long as the person wants to keep playing the casino (in reality it is going to be $4000+ because the person is force to register for at least 2 years) versus $2000 once then $10 for something that is more likely to have value.

How about the option of hand registering 1000 names at $20 ( $20,000 and 2 year renewal costs $20,000...) or buying a $20,000 name ( and 2 renewal cost $20 ) ... that's also interesting..

The $20,000 name. Hand reges are high risk and for very experienced domainers in my view.

Even registering 1000 names to start with I'd question whether the person knows what they are doing. Unless that person is going through millions of potential domains to get that 1000 they've probably just wasted most of the 20k.
