This week Jack Media acquired a killer pair of domains and accompanying websites Fashion.com.au and Cosmetics.com.au from OMG Fairfax Media.
We know that the fashion and beauty industries are hot in the online space so we got in touch with James Kitchener CEO and Co-Founder of Jack Media to discuss the acquisition and what their plans are for these killer exact match domains, which currently have business directories on them.
James thanks for taking the time to answer a few questions for us. Firstly, we always talk about having passion for the vertical or niche that you’re in, what attracted you to investing in these particular online properties?
Funnily enough we weren’t looking to purchase any premium domain names but simply couldn’t resist when the opportunity to acquire these domains was presented to us by Ned O’Meara of Domain Syndicates. Premium domain names like these do not readily come up for sale so just like any investment we needed to act fast. Ned did a great job in facilitating the sale for us. Also, having experience in managing fashion and beauty campaigns on the Jack Media network we knew it would be great to build out our own publisher sites in these niches. Owning the premium names in the fashion and beauty sectors will only increase our market share and traffic pool.
Why do you feel that exact match keyword domains like Fashion.com.au and Cosmetics.com.au are so valuable and highly sort after?
There are only a finite number of premium domains available and once they are all developed there will be none left. Premium domain names will continue to grow in value similar to any other rare commodity.
For those who are hesitating taking the plunge investing in a better quality domain, what tips or advice would you have for them?
We are definitely not premium domain name experts but businesses spend millions of dollars getting their names recognized so why build a brand when you can simply buy one.
In a nutshell, if you wish to establish a strong business or presence on the web, it's vital to select a domain name that is descriptive, short, memorable, and ultimately, brandable.
What are your future plans for Fashion.com.au and Cosmetics.com.au moving forward?
We intend to turn Fashion.com.au into a premium Australian fashion destination. Whilst we haven’t started work on the re-development of the website, we have already received a spike in followers on our new fashion.com.au Facebook page in a week since the domain purchase. The quick growth of the social media following has validated our insights into the demand of the online fashion and beauty marketplace https://www.facebook.com/fashion.com.au.
