Australia Complains

What a bunch of losers we will look like complaining about stuff like .sucks & .fail. The government department who decided to write up dozens of complaints needs a funding cut.

So what does this mean exactly (since I'm new and really dont know).

When they refer to (ex.) .creditcard, are they refering to a domain name 'creditcard.com.au' or an extension?

:confused::confused::confused:

The new extensions were a dumb, money grubbing idea to start with. Interesting to see a few big hitters in there though, including those that can't spell "tyres".

Hi Jay,

They're referring to the extensions.

Note that other generic Top Level Domain (gTLD) extensions aren't new and haven't really taken off.

I think I've only ever seen one ad for a .travel site. Very occasionally I meet people using a .info or .biz. My recommendation is always to try and secure a good .com.au/.com if it's in their budget.

Cheers,
Chris

Thanks Chris....I thought thats what it was.

I'll have a look at those links you posted before I ask more silly questions ;)

Jay

There are no silly questions mate, the gTLDs are pretty confusing to say the least :)

We're all learning something new every day!

Cheers,
Chris

Some more reports:

...reinforcing its reputation as an over-regulator of the internet....

It is also concerned that an application for .ooo is "visually similar" to Australia's triple-zero and could confuse people in an emergency.

WTF? Which brings me to...

However, the Department of Broadband Communications and the Digital Economy (DBCDE) also objected to domains ending in fail, gripe, sucks and wtf (short for what the f--k?) because they are "overtly negative or critical connotation'

Good stuff. The ooo sounds valid, even worse is when something is for sale in a shop for say $1,000. If I'm in an emergency do I need to buy this product?
