Why don't registrars remove domains that have been transferred out?

Maybe one of the registrars can help me out with this one, but I recently transferred a couple of domains from ZipHosting to VentraIP and I noticed the domains didn't get removed from my ZipHosting account (and I'm now starting to get renewal emails from them).

When I emailed them asking if they could refresh the domains in my account as it is showing ones that are no longer with them, they sent me this response:

Good Afternoon,

I will be happy to assist you.

Before I can proceed with your request, please let me know the domains
names that you wish to be removed from your account. Once received, we
will process request immediately.

If there is anything else that I can help you with, please let me know.

Kind Regards,

Ziphosting Customer Support Team

Shouldn't this be something that is automatic?

You'd think so! I know AussieHQ do it, which is fantastic.

I've found TPP don't do it automatically though (which is a PITA) and I think VentraIP used to be the same from memory (may be different now though, not sure).

VentraIP domains that have been transferred away show up in the list for the first visit of the control panel after transfer, with a message saying they'll be removed when the page is refreshed :)

Yes, I've noticed VentraIP do that! Obviously ZipHosting don't.

Most registries provide this information via EPP POLL messages, so really isn't difficult for registrars to implement. For the registries that don't there are other ways around it. ;)

Yes, but most (thankfully not all) registrars have idiotic brain-dead programmers writing crippled backend applications. (I do not have any time for Lazy & Incompetent
wannabe programmers)
I even get renewal notices for names that have not only been transferred away from them, but have been later dropped or onsold.
