Why is .net.au classed as being no good? Isnt a 5 letter major keyword in .net.au worth something if you build a decent site on it?

yes, surely "dentist.net.au" is worth something , football.net.au, soccer, health, lawyer, etccccccc

I had a 1-2 month old ecommerce store which had a EMD, it was hit pretty hard, before the update, it was ranking on first page, now its disappeared of google search when i enter that keyword. I did a Site:EMD search, came out without the correct title and h1.
I havent really done any black seo on it, just quality related directory listing. Anyone got any suggestion on what I should do next to improve it?

What is the site?

I am sorry I can't share it as it's a blatant TM...which so far did well...but previously Google already twice this year kicked me out of page 1, just to see the domain back to where it was the month later without doing any change.

I havent really done any black seo on it,

"haven't really" ??? well either you have or you haven't ? which is it?

if you HAVE, and googles' got you then you only have yourself to blame, all the "rules" are written... its all available, if you want to go black hat then be BLOODY good at it.

but to answer your question what to do:

content content UNIQUE content, stories stories stories, BLOGGGGGGGGG

this is what we are doing right now and seeing good success, sometimes feeding to facebook ( i don't have clients that can see benefits in twitter ) but bloging stories is working, i have a florist that blogs about sending flowers to a new mother with baby, i have a jewellery maker that blogs about what she created for a brides wedding etccc , google LOVES it.

its showing in their rankings and their stickiness

Hi Tim, when i mean i dont use any black seo, I really meant it. Just not a big fan of crappy cheap tricks.

What really surprise me is that I have linked a blog to this eCommerce site and did a few high quality related directory listing But still got hit really hard, it has basically taken the main page off the search with particular keywords. I think the problem is because its a fairly new site (1-2month old). before the update it was climbing up top of 1st page

What's the difference between black hat and white hat? Why is it that white hats always accuse others of black hat chicanery?

Black hat are the techniques the guys outranking you are using...

:p

That said, you could probably argue that EMD's were black hat, in that they were exploiting a Google loophole.

Although longevity helps if you are in a reasonable no competitive term then you should stick, if its competitive i see that google will rank me because it likes new content then it will come back and see if i really do have value compared to the others so you can get first page quickly and get dumped, its not because of how long you have been around its because of a million different calculations google makes.

EMD is black hat? well i tend to agree, but we have been talking about low quality emd and high quality emd so if you create a high quality emd then you negate the term black hat from what you are doing.

Isnt Black Hat "automation" and manipulation of Google loopholes? If so.....then everyone does this or tries to, the only difference is that the real Black Hatters go to far, like scrapebox and stuff like that.

Where we manually build links, they use software.

A person i once conversed with is reported to be one of the greatest SEO people of all time and i see he is still very big. Thats what he told me......Blackhat is good, just be the best at it and know the cutt off point.

Personally ive been to scared to ever go near anything even remotely BH.:(

maybe we shouldn't talk about BH on an open forum?
"Isnt BH "automation" and manipulation of Google loopholes?"
no its much more then that, and WH can turn into BH if gogle decides, thats the frustrating thing.

Not sure if it is a result of the latest updates, but here are the search results for a search I just made. [tweeted the image through to Matt Cutts]

Definitely making buyers edgy. An email I got today on a domain sale that was at invoice stage...

"Due to the recent announcement by Google about ‘exact match domains’ (article below), my client would like to think further about the purchase of XXXXXXXXXXX.com.au for $XXXX.

We will be in touch within 10 days regarding this.

Impacting developed sites too - buyers are wary to pay more than 12 months earning even on long established sites.

Why pay a premium for an EMD if that's the plan? From what I've seen from my own sites, it seems the only sort of EMD's that have been hit are the shitty 5 page pink4slicetoaster.com type sites (not including place holder type sites although this probably isn't a good idea now) which are typically available for hand reg anyway.

If Google said they were making changes to EMD across the board, that would be a concern but an EMD is still probably a good signal to send albiet not as strong as it once was, you'd still want it regardless I would think.
