Increasing 'Likes' and sharing information

Hey all, I'm trying to do 2 things at the moment...

1) Increasing the number of GENUINE likes on my Facebook page to gain more exposure

2) Share more information and content relating to web design, and online business, that is hopefully interesting and beneficial to business owners.

So I am asking for anyone who might be interested in learning about this stuff to take a look at my page (https://www.facebook.com/goldcoastweb)and if you're interested please LIKE it... I feel bad for doing shameless self promotion like this but hey, at least I'm offering some good content in return right?

There is one post daily and they range from:
- Blog posts
- Interesting facts and statistics
- Hot tips to improve your online business
- Web design memes (I bet you didn't think they existed - they do)
- Updates on current projects that are in progress or recently completed

So thanks again to any and all who come and take a look!

Funny stuff, you'd like increase "GENUINE" likes and this is the chosen method?

Uhhh yeah, i.e. if you're genuinely interested in the content that's being posted there, then you like it... I.e. a genuine like.

I get that you think it's funny that I'm asking for likes, but it's pretty clear. If you don't want to see the content, don't like the page.

Oh come on. Nothing wrong with someone appealing to contacts in their industry field for a bit of support. It's related to what we all do so I'm sure if the content is decent we will "GENUINELY" like it.

Hey snoopy have you ever done anything proactive with your domains/websites? Or do you just park them all and sit back waiting for offers?

There is nothing wrong with it, but those likes aren't going to be "GENUINE".

Lol why not? Are you saying that the people who might like the page would do so, even though they have no interest in the content posted there? Because that's literally what I asked people not to do.

You're asking them for likes, essentially a favour, that isn't a way to get genuine interest.

The whole thing is a bit of waste of time really, should a thread just asking for likes even exist in a section about social media discussion? I don't think it is against the rules, but it is setting the quality bar extremely low.

That's absolute garbage. especially when he says:

Are you trying to suggest that because the interest was solicited, it's not real?

What is advertising all about? Getting people to consider a product and service that they may otherwise not have thought about. Just because an ad gave them the idea to go into the shop doesn't make them less genuine than someone else who stumbles across it, does it?

Hi LemonChip, I'm into web dev so took a good look around. Your sites looks excellent so keep up the great work. I've liked your page too :)

If you have any offers for DNT members get in touch and I'll help promote them.

Cheers,
Chris

Hey Chris, thanks for the feedback very much appreciated. Yeah I'm thinking of cooking up something to offer DNT members, but not 100% sure of what that should be just yet...

It is more comparable to bumming quarters than advertising, basically asking people to do them a favour.

I made the same mistake as you.
I confused my customers by calling my Facebook page a different name to my business name or brand name.
I have not created a FB page for a while, so I am only guessing they still allow full stops in page names
Facebook.com / lemonchip.com ( no spaces)
if you really want Likes, run a competition.
Maybe giveaway a nexus 7 tablet. (value $250 )
You will not find many people on this forum who appreciate the power of FB for businesses
I tried to convince a few without success
So why should I care.
FB earns me a profit every day and I have not advertised on it for 2 years.
