Todays Drop Amazing Results

I was quite impressed by todays results and how Netfleet have progressed.

There were 16 bids on domains on snapper lots on drop. Amazingly of the 7 domains which were caught by netfleet at the expense of drop 6 of them are registered to Publishing Australia. I find this to be a statistical anomaly.

They did very well today. I was going to bid on a domain but I fell asleep during the Lakers game and missed the closed :\

I noticed a few were caught by Publishing Australia as well. I don't know the relationship details between the directors of Publishing Australia Pty Ltd / NetAlliance Pty Ltd / Netregistry Pty Ltd (http://www.auda.org.au/news-archive/auda-30102009/) however I noticed that none of their bids appeared until just after bidding finished (in my browser anyway). Last time I made a bid on Snapper I don't recall a way to hide the bid?

Hi Roo

Yes, a good result for snapper today...

If no bids on snapper, Publishing Australia may sometimes go for domain names for their own portfolio. Same as Domain Active Pty do for Drop.

Today was a bit freakish I agree with PA bagging quite a few...it's never usually like that to be honest as most of the PA ear marked domains usually have bids on...

Cheers

Thanks for the clarification Mark. I think one difference though is that the Domain Active registrations on Drop are highlighted prior to auction end via a $0 bid. Someone please correct me if I am wrong on this! It seems maybe it is a little bit of an unfair advantage for an entity to be able to place hidden bids if others aren't! Again, please correct me if I am wrong on this.

Hi AndyC

No worries

Why unfair? If you want the domain, you are free to bid on it. In fact it's a huge disadvantage for Publishing Australia - they can never go for any domains with bids on (generally speaking, the good domains!)

Whether a domain has a bid or not is obviously a very good indicator as to whether the name is desirable and obviously raises the profile of the domain on the auction hence increases the possibility of additional bids so it does seem to be an advantage to be able to place hidden bids.

Why can't Publishing Australia bid on names that already have a bid?

Just seems to me that all clients should operate under the same rules.

Even though PA and NF are 2 completely independent legal entities, we make no secret of the fact that there is a relationship between the 2 companies, and as such a long time ago PA agreed not to participate in any competitive bidding just as Domain Active does with Drop.

Important to note too that the bids are not hidden, rather they come in after the auction closes where there are no bids.

I have seen Publishing Australia Pty Ltd bid on some interesting domains which I have been going for, they seem to go with the strategy of very high bids in the last 5 or so seconds.

it's funny how some people have an issue with this yet don't have an issue ( atleast not publically ) with Publishing Australia listing domains on Netfleet where they have access to bid and buyer data - particularly on their "Secondary Auctions". They have access to see what proxy bids are made etc - an advantage over every other participant.

if nobody else makes a bid why cant they buy the domains themselves?

I never said they shouldn't be able to buy the domains themselves. But I think there are questions around how they are able to bid on names without attracting any attention during the auction.

This is pretty silly; quality domains naturally attract attention and receive bids on a daily basis. What makes a quality domain name differs amongst person to person but anyone is free to bid on any domains they want without preference being given to NF or Drop.

Perhaps you would be happy if they emailed you a list of the ones they intend to buy so you can then bid on it yourself? Do your own research each day and the fact they bid on domains no-one wants is a non issue.

i agree, that is my point if somebody wanted these domains they should have made a bid and since nobody did they should be able to catch them

I just find it interesting that a high percentage of domains caught by NF are won by Publishing Australia. I would assume that every bidder has an equal chance of grabbing a domain so statistically PA should only win 10% (say an average of 10 unique bidders per day) Today they won 90%. Yesterday 50%.

mmm the issue of Domain Active ( Drop) and Publishing Australia ( Netfleet) does look interesting. Im happy so far they have self regulated & it seems to be fair and open.. what could happen if the name was an incredible name but.. with the proxy bid info being known to them this might make them think of going above it for a killer domain... it must be tempting... say Cars, Homes, Boats came up what would happen.. anything or not?

I find it interesting that people constantly question NetFleet and PA. NetFleet work tirelessly to encourage an aftermarket. What do you do?

NF has a great platform, we all love it. PA buy and sell domains. Are you suggesting they cannot use the very platform they created for the industry?

If you dont like the system, dont use it.

Well done 2day with the success on NF, although very sorry for those that missed out via Drop. I felt like just reeeeaching out and pressing the reboot button on Drop  I noticed the 2 closed domains (not caught) that hung open for a while, later handregd by D8 ... Hmmmm I was soooo tempted..... but would never!!! :D

and *domainlover* true, I think if someone wanted the domains that bad, they should have put in a bid - and preferably not just in one place! - and at the price they were quite prepared to pay. Unless... the person was peeved coz it looked like the particular domain was NOT going to be caught so they could go off & hand reg
