i came accross an article about this while doing a google domain news search

makes you wonder what really goes on , one thing i know is that once i read that backordering a domain only puts in you a mini auction with whoever else backordered it (quite often a big player) .... there was no point at least with the american based registrars, the netfleet system sounds a lot more honest

I'm getting $300US odd cheque to be mailed to me from Snapnames as I had 2domains I won, get bumped up by the person in question who use to work for them.

I think its good that they are doing this, shows the company is honest and is trying to show with its back pocket.

On a related topic, with a auction site like this, NameJet for example, what if a shareholder of NameJet is genuniely interested in buying expired domains and bid on interested names. Would you feel comfortable with this site?

as long as they are going through the same channels as everyone else , but back ordering seems to have lost its purpose i think

Although as stated netfleets does offer the 'just you option' much better

It's honourable that they're paying people back with interest if they had their auctions bidded up. However this comes nowhere near compensating for those people that actually lost auctions for to "Halvarez" which they should have rightly won.

Also there is no way I can believe that if SnapNames were doing their job properly then they would not have come across this activity earlier. More then 50,000 auctions over a number of years along with the fact that people reported Halvarez a number of times as being suspicious bidding activity. I know that it was supposedly an inside job according to the press release but if they had any sort of decent system in place and wanted to find out then they would have a long time ago. It does raise questions in my mind when the majority of this shill bidding was done before the company was sold to Overture. Was it a nice way to boost earnings to get a pretty sum when selling? Who knows I suppose and I am probably wrong altogether but I just can't believe that this amount of shill bidding could go on for so long without anyone noticing and stopping it sooner.
