Should A Startup Spend VC Funding On A Domain Name?

I've spent a fair bit of time at startup conferences in the past 12 months, and nobody cares about generic domain names.

All they care about is being short pronounceable brandable domains.

So many are trying to use crap like .co

I received advice from a VC guy along the lines of:

1) Don't pay for a domain
2) Make sure its under 10 characters
3) and four syllables
4) if the dot com is gone then the dot co is the go.

Personally I agree with all of that in principle but I'd use VC cash to buy a domain if I thought that it would really really really make a difference to the business model.

business model is the key.

crazyjohns means nothing but it has a great business model

.co .......... go away and come back when you have a better idea !

I've heard the opposite regarding .com domains. They've basically said 'get the .com - don't bother with other extensions'. One person suggested that they wouldn't invest if they thought they wouldn't be able to secure the .com for the brand.

TLD or ccTLD are the ONLY go for investment.

and columbia i don't do business in. All you will do is GIVE traffic to the TLD's
