Job - quick website migration

I've just bought an established website and need to transfer it from the current server over to my shared server.

The site is coded in PHP.

Thanks nt81 and the guys who PM'ed me.

The vendor is dicking me around with the login details. He says the hosting is through 'Plesk' and he can't give me the login details without giving me access to all of his other websites.

Is this right? Can't he just give me the individual login details as you would for cpanel?

He's given me the FTP login details, but you can't transfer a PHP website that uses databases just using FTP can you? I'm certain the answer is no.

Unless he can get you a dump of the databases, you're being dicked around.

I work a fair bit with Plesk (unfortunately), he should be able to give you an individual login.

If you have access to WHM on the other end, you might be able to do a "Copy Account from Another Server", but again, you need the login details for just that Plesk account.

Let me know if you get stuck.

if you have the database credentials (db name, user, pass) it should be possible to upload a php file that will make a database dump, which you can then ftp

actually the db credentials are most likely in a config file. so something like this should work

everyone else is on the right track for the database but there should be no reason why you can't get FTP details for the individual site and get all the site files.

then he should just backup his database and dropbox it to you.

a least then you have everything backed up.
