Anyone registered any id.au domain names?

I am a bit confused as to how id.au domains like:

realestate.id.au, loans.id.au and business.id.au

to name just a few are being registered. I have tried registering several and have been refused each time because "Your name does not relate to this domain name"??

.ID domains are like all others.. I own several....register away... If you want to see them rank on Google then search locksmith brisbane and see second page.

I read something about .id domains on www.domainingaustralia.com.au

I'm not sure this is the case... last I checked, a requirement of .id.au domains is that they should be based on your name or nickname. There was a post on this forum some time ago stating that this was under review and going to be relaxed to allow you to register related interests/hobbies but I don't think this is the case just yet?

Thanks Ash, I had searched but didn't find any posts on the forum for .id.au domains, will have another look now.

It would seem some registrars are more flexible than others in allowing non name related id.au registrations.

That nickname criteria sounds like a funny one.

The name's John Smith, but my friends call me John "Credit Cards Home Loans Viagra Car Insurance" Smith :p

AUDA check all .id.au regos (not straight away, but they go through them monthly at least), and any that don't appear to be within policy are asked for a please explain, which always results in the name being deleted and zero refund.

Long story short.. don't bother wasting your money.

That's sort of my point, it seems like many id.au domains that are really stretching the policy are not being deleted... Unless of course the ones I am checking are being registered, then deleted and then re-registered on a continual basis.

At the moment the .id.au eligibility requirement is still name/nickname:

(i) Includes, or is derived from, one or more words of registrant's personal
(ii) A name by which the registrant is commonly known

Source: http://www.auda.org.au/policies/auda-2008-06/

After the 2010 Names Panel outcomes are implemented, auDA will expand eligibility in the .id.au space, with the policy to be relaxed to
include domain names that refer to personal hobbies and interests

Source: http://www.auda.org.au/pdf/2010npp-final-report.pdf

Right now if you register a generic name and cannot convince auDA that it is a nickname by which you are commonly known, they will likely policy delete it.

I'm curious to see how they implement the wording of the new policy and what this will mean for monetisation in the .id.au 2LD.
