I'm after unique ways of how to connect with people that have a name that starts with the domain name I own.

yes I know we have the white pages directory, looking for something a little more creative...

Thanks guys :)

Run some statistics on the name - http://www.namestatistics.com/

Then run adwords on the name with a sales page =)

I guess the best way if if you find some one cashed up who wants to buy the name for their Daughter or Wife, if that is even possible.

Ive learnt in the domain name game anything IS possible, I find my best results are by doing and not waiting...

I agree more with your second point.

Thanks for the tips, appreciate.

It is the kind of thing that has been done to death.

Personally I would put up a for sale page on the domain and wait. Typical buyers for this type of name are businesses using that first name as their trading name and also celebrities/significant people to a small extent. Don't lower your odds of making money by putting a crappy site on it.

Yeh agree snoopy but if you want some extra cash, sit, hold and wait wont cut it, I find being proactive works...

Could also bite you on the arse Mathew. ;)

One needs to be very careful when marketing "personal names" (in the .au space). A few people have learnt this the hard way - they've actually had their domains "policy deleted".

How or why is this possible you may ask? It's because of auDA policy (unfortunately).

If someone doesn't like your approach, they could complain to auDA. And auDA will ask you what your "close and substantial connection" is. And that's where some people have come unstuck.

I'm not trying to be negative - I'm just giving you a heads up that you need to be careful how you handle it.

I'm an aussie, just because I post here does not necessarily mean I'm referring to an .au, I also understand the rules when owning a .com.au.

Thanks :)

If it is a .com, then you've potentially got another market with porn sites.

well neds assumption is correct as i thought that as well, might have been good to mention that at first.

given that we are now assuming its a .com then the suggestions about a parking for sale page seem a good idea.

i don't .com's so i don't know but from what i have read just set it up on sedo or someone and wait, the problem is when you ask for FAR to much and end up with nothing IMO.

i've seen some ABSOLUTELY crappy names where people want high $xx,xxx and i'm talking longtail domains !

as for direct marketing? i think you could spend a day on it but now more and then give up and wait
