I like the like button and the chimp!

Hey all,

Some of you might just 'know' all this, but others might find it useful? So easy to implement and increase the stickiness of your site.

I've been giving the "like/recommend" button and absolute floggin on all of my sites. It's a simple copy and past into every individual post and it's the shiznit! Over 2 weeks I've experienced an overall traffic increase of 450% with Facebook as the main referrer.

It pulls your page title etc for the info so at the click of a button people see;

** Joe Bloggs recommends >> 2 FOR 1 COFFEE from Voucher.com.au

Joe Bloggs has 500 friends on Facebook who all see something similar to the above. Chances are a lot of Joe's family and friends live in the same area and assuming Joe is a normal human being, he probably hangs out with like minded people interested in similar things.

Secondly, I have also implemented email subscribe forms on all my sites and have increased signups by 300% across the board.

Short forms (name and email) convert better and jquery popups no longer annoy people it seems, especially if you set the popup to only occur once/twice (cookies).

Weekly/Monthly newsletters with topic/demographic relevant content are converting like mad and even a list of 100 targeted people can generate you extra $$$.

I've always found monetizing a bit of a bitch and aren't making a bazillion dollars, but every weekly email is earning me $xxx per week extra income. Every mail out also generates more visits to the site, more 'likes' and the wheels keep turning. (Also include the 'like' button in your newsletter).

FYI- Mailchimp just increased their free account limits to 1,000 subscribers and make it a sinch to get rolling.

hey timmy keeping in mind i don't really get into or do facebook much are saying just cut and past the like code into what ever i post ....that simple or am i supposed to go to the link you supplied and do something from there ?

Hey mate,

Good thing is you don't actually need to be on Facebook to do it, you're simply taking advantage of your web surfers who do use it

If you visit http://developers.facebook.com/docs/reference/plugins/like and fill out the form. Enter in the url of the page you want the like button to operate for, then click 'get code', then just edit your post in wordpress and add the entire html <iframe></iframe> code at the bottom of the post.

An example being;

http://vegetarian.net.au/2009/11/vegetarian-curry/

When someone clicks like, it should automatically post on their Facebook profile something similar to;

** Joe Bloggs likes >> Vegetarian Curry at Vegetarian.net.au

There might be a plugin or a more efficient way of doing it, but I've just been doing it on individual posts.

If you do different code for each page it will narrow down and be more specific but you get the idea

The wife and 600 other people will think I've lot the plot and turned vego!

couldn't figure out why my bikinis.tv had a white box appear in header ?

back tracked a few things i had done lately ......still there ?

then it dawned on me .....the facebook like button was gone ?

went back to the link supplied here (i had book marked it) and tried to re install

....... now doesn't work

Did this happen for any one else i wonder ?
