How long after purge can you register a domain

When the AUDA drop list has a domain listed, for example, with an eligible purge time of 03:05:00 with today's date, I understand it is UTC time,

- so either add 10 or 11 hours for AEST?

- how long generally before the domain is then available to register?

-11 hours at the moment due to Daylight savings (assuming you're on eastern seaboard) - so 2:05pm
-Instantly in my experience

but isn't available?

Ah ok I understand the problem.

The time next to each domain is the ELIGIBLE purge time. After the eligibile purge time, it gets purged at the next purge cycle. Which happens at 2:05pm AEDT

What advantage is there in using drop auctions over hand reg
- is it that the automation has a time advantage?
- do drop auctions only 'purchase' when there is at least one bid and not purchase no bid domains?

-Automation will register it in a couple of seconds rather than a matter of minutes, so more security.

-If it has no bids they don't "snap" it. You can just hand reg it.

Wonder why they use UTC time...?

It's easier to manage a system in UTC as the time remains constant - switching time every 6 months definitely has it's challenges.

They are both known to purchase domains with zero bids for their sister companies. (for lack of a better word).
