Feel good story here:

i need some beer for my 21st, so i e-mailed the ceo of fosters brewery to ask for help. and he replied. story here: http://bit.ly/NpDF5A

I don’t know why I did it. But I did.

At 1AM on Monday morning, I wrote an e-mail to the CEO of Australia’s leading brewery – a man I’d never met – asking for some help with stocking the eskies at my 21st birthday. Don’t laugh. I’m serious.

Call me cynical but I think this and similar stories are contrived by marketing departments.

The kid works in radio and in his email admits to drinking underage (no big deal but what company wants to be associated with that?) and yet the CEO finds the time to not only respond and send him booze but also provides him with a unique picture that has not been used elsewhere before (there is a similar one which is obviously from the same photo shoot in 2011 but the one in the article has not appeared before).

My money is on the CEO being completely unaware of this and it's just some guerrilla marketing.

http://www.reddit.com/r/HailCorporate is a good look at how some companies are using (arguably abusing) sites such as reddit to market their products. This sorta stuff is very subtle.

Don't blame you for being cynical as theres no doubt a lot of stories like this are fake, but I'm fairly certain the story is real.

Beer companies encourage drinking... especially this one :)

Same photo as far as I can tell:

i'm a member of a "beer club" ( surprise surprise LOL ) and up until recently and for the past 23 Years CUB have given us 6 cartons of beer each month for our "monthly meeting about beer !!" , all we had to do is give feedback on the beer, we didn't get to choose, they used us as market research so 6 cartons is CHEAP research, there is @ 50 in the club but generally only @ 20+ for the friday lunchtime "meeting"

I agree this could be a scam BUT hey FM i whatch some TV and the BS that is on in the adverts is no better then this type of stealth marketing, they treat us like fools and we suck it up.

when i read it i thought " this guy came up with an idea, rang the promo dept and said HEY, if i do this and you do that then i will make it go semi-viral and we are all winners"

you can't trash someone for coming up with a new idea.
