Former Juventus and Italy star Alessandro Del Piero to sign for Sydney FC

Definitely the biggest signing the league has had. Going from Serie A winners and playing in the champions league last season to the A-League is a massive win for our league!

And on his part, $2million for 6months of Australian summer is pretty good too!

So excited... Just got my season ticket renewed last week. Glad I did!

Forza ADP! (did I get that right, Lorenzo?)

Finally we have some real football fans! Always feel out of place when everyone starts posting about AFL and State of Origin :D

State of what? Oh yeah that rugby game that the English invented for the masses when they realized that real football was too complex, sophisticated and required too much patience for certain members of the public to appreciate.

So they dumbed it down into rugby union, dumbed it down even more into rugby league, exported it and then dumped it.

Of course if you can't appreciate or understand the game, for the reasons above you will find it dull.

As for the fans rioting all the time... Well they don't. Although the way the media reports any and every minor incident you would think that is the case.

My personal experience having been to maybe 100-200 games and I've never seen a riot. Pitch invasions, sure, someone getting chucked out.. Yep for sure. Sure I've probably seen a punch thrown too. But no riot. And that's including games in the rough working class areas of the north of England in the 80s and 90s

In fact I've been to about 10 games of cricket in my life and I've seen more incidents and people getting chucked out for antisocial behaviour in those few games than the hundreds of football games I've been to.

I've been to 1 NFL game, last season. I heard worse language there than any other sporting event I've attended. In just a single game. I'm no prude and it didn't bother me particularly but I certainly wouldn't have wanted to bring my kids there.

The sensationalist media reports really piss me off. The other day in a preseason match, some kid threw a bunga. The police steamed in completely over the top and ended up arresting one person. However the daily telegraph had the front page "soccer violence rocks Sydney" in font size 200. 1 firecracker, 1 arrest. Sydney really wasn't rocked.

Of course they do that because it sells papers and the majority 'other code' supporters lap it up because they feel ever more superior. And deep down we all love a hooligan story! They also do it because their business interests are so invested in league and afl so they don't want to put a positive spin on something thatbis a threat (however minor) to their business.

Anyway that's my takes on it. Feel better now. :)

Patience ! PATIENCE ! , yeh ... you need a year worth of games before someone scores !!!! and then they hold a world cup where the 2 best teams end up deciding who wins on penalty goals !!!

NO wonder there are soccor riots, at the end of a state of origin game no matter who wins all the fans hop on the same train and go home without incident.

I watched Chelsea v Millwall AT Millwall in 1991 and in the center of the ground there was 30 meters of empty seats, barriers either side and police in the middle.

After the game all the chelsea fans were escorted out of the ground to find a street lined with police towards the train station, the trains/tubes then did not stop until it got back to chelsea.

(i was in a corporate box thank god)

and having run pubs in london i have many more examples.

Soccer, i love watching the world cup but please try to put your game UP instead of rugby/league DOWN. I only trashed soccer in rebutal, so we are even.

Definitely great news for the sport here!

Might just make me attend a few games at the SCG - as we do need more big name players to sign on

Was gutted when Robbie Fowler chose Perth

Great news for Sydney FC and the A-League in general! In time for negotiation of TV rights next year too.

I didn't think about that. I did hear that Italian TV is interested in broadcasting all of Sydney's games. Will be interesting how they negotiate that.

Definitely great news for the A-League although still hoping the Roar continue to dominate :)

Mixed feelings - fantastic for Sydney FC and the A League

But it means Liverpool severely short of any striking talents... oh well

lol, he's not a diver.

Don't get me started because I was supporting Australia in the World Cup 2006 match against Italy, but he is definitely NOT a fake player.
