Favourite WordPress Plugins

Found an option to turn it off completely whilst not online. Thanks for prompting me to go looking. :)

I was using a plugin to change the logon address so instead of rod.tv/wp-admin it was rod.tv/mychoice but the problem is I have forgotten the name of the plugin, basically it allows you to change the /wp-admin part to something of your choice. If anyone knows the name of this plugin I would be grateful to find out, cheers

I think @findtim has mentioned one here, will try and find it.

There are a few - but something like this?

https://wordpress.org/plugins/wps-hide-login/

Cerber is brilliant, check it out. If you ever forget the URL, just delete the plugin via cPanel, log in as per normal and download again. You can set it to block ips that attempt to login via the normal login.

Thanks Gang, I ended up going with the first suggestion from Chris, main concern was to change from site.com/wp-admin to something else, that has been done it's all good, cheers !

i use wordfence and its got a firewall in the free version for some time now but i haven't seen any improvement but maybe thats the thing " it keeps the elephants away " theory.

i've resently added ip geo block, https://en-au.wordpress.org/plugins/ip-geo-block/ and have had good results and can easily select countries rather then a long list of ip's as i have to keep uk, usa, nz open for florist orders and rarely get any problems from those country ip's

I used this plugin in a recent project its got so much potential, and free too. Its definitely one of my favourites.
https://en-au.wordpress.org/plugins/dynamic-widgets/

It is a dynamic widget plugin. The use I had was to display different widgets to international users over Aussie users. But this can also extend to displaying widgets only on certain pages, or posts. And all sorts of user based decisions, the plugin suggests its great for showing different ads to different users. Also it was suggested that it would work well with WPML Language plugins.

ok, i'm lov'n IP Geo plugin, its cut down MOUNTAINS of foreign wp-admin "guessing" attempts.

I haven't used that one Tim, I use this one, you may want to check out. https://en-au.wordpress.org/plugins/wp-ban/ It allows you to decide which ip blocks you want to block access from admin areas, but still allow them to see the front end. It also blocks certain referrers, helpful if your cleaning up a site after a hack or a site that let a lot of spam comments.

The only thing it doesn't do is custom text in widgets. I had a couple of links/images in some widgets, so just a quick manual change for those.

And if you like the plugin - consider making a donation to the developer (I just did). I try to remember to donate to developers that release free plugins that save me time (and money).

I just setup SSL on one of my sites and this plugin is amazing:
https://wordpress.org/plugins/velvet-blues-update-urls/

It's brilliant for bulk changing URLs throughout your site (in DB, posts/pages etc).

I've used this plugin many times and I thought others might find it useful too.
Good plugin,
I'm in a situation where I'm still getting mixed content issues, and was recommended this plugin made by a local WordPress developer.
https://en-au.wordpress.org/plugins/ssl-insecure-content-fixer/ seems to be really good.
