Yes, I'm familiar with that. Though I like to add social media buttons at the end of our blog posts. I've seen some of readers click them also.

i looked at managewp when it first started and it had a free trial but the pricing page at the time said " ummm, we are still working that out " so i never got involved.
now i see the pricing i think its a GREAT system but the fees PER MONTH need consdiration to their benefit as I generally only update a plugin IF its a critical security alert, or a major change, i don't stuff around with 3.1111 changing to 3.1112
once you are commited and spent the time putting your sites into it then it would be hard to leave ( just like hosting and domain rego really )
especially if you are running over 200 sites, YES.... time is money but in the example of the professional 250 websites package i don't think i spend $1800 a year of my time on doing updates.

I've never heard of this Gravity Form before...looks amazing I must say. Contact Form 7 is doing me well for now, but as my business grows I can definitely see the value in the $199 investment...especially seeing as I'm using Freshbooks also and they have an add-on for this. But for now, Contact Form 7 is doing just fine...

FAQs manager is a simple plugin to organise your Frequently Asked Questions and insert them into a page/post as shortcode.

I went to sign up today and the signup page was not secured by SSL and the password was showing in plain text. Didn't give me too much confidence.
Have emailed them and they said they'll get it fixed up.
Wasn't there some discount offered at WCSYD? like 30% off or something.

Most of the plugins in this thread ADD functionality that Wordpress lacks out of the box.
Not needed, but very beneficial for completing the desired tasks.

i ALWAYS have the latest version and its not good enough for anything other then blogging so plugins play a very important role in creating a business website.
Also going out and buying a theme for $29 or so won't give you the functionality needed to really monetrise your sites imo
all you get from a them is a prettier version of the BASE platform.
give me some flour, chocolate, eggs and water and i still can't make you a cake but someone can make an amazing one. This is why webdesigners get paid and I buy my cakes not the flour.

Yes plugins play any an important role in business web sites
I still cannot see any plugins in this thread that have not been superseded by latest WP version
Not sure why you mention themes

You must be reading with your eyes closed.
Read from the start, every plugin mentioned adds something that the core does NOT offer.
To say it's been superseded just doesn't make sense.
For example:
Wordfence: Emails you when a user logs in to wp admin, emails you when you have plugins that require updating, scans for file changes and malware infected files. The core does not even go close to doing this.

definately reading with eyes closed, i mentioned themes as they are an addon to the "out of the box" WP just like a plugin is.
i just imagine a WP website "out of the box" being used for anything serious.
don't get us wrong, i think we all LOVE WP , but you have to conceed all it is IS a base to start from.

"exclude pages from navigation http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/exclude-pages/
does what it says, i use it for pages i only want to have linked from an article/page and not show on the nav menu"
Why use a plugin when you can do exactly that using appearance.menus?
Lets not forget that plugins can be troublesome in the future if the author no longer supports it and maybe it becomes incompatible with a later version of WP
