hyperthetical  I'm building a smalllll site that I own and its a directory, so I decide i'll just start by listing a few people who I'd like to sell advertising to later "maybe dubbo dentists" !

so say there are 15 dentists I list 4 to start, gives me some content and I get some rankings, I haven't contacted them, I haven't asked them for money, the information came from either the YP or their own website.

SO, I now out rank them ! I get a phone call from 1 of them that says "take me off your website I never gave you permission to place my contact details on your website" I ask " why" he answers " we are getting phone calls " !!!!!!!!!!

I haven't offered specials or made any claims.

but he wants me to delist him.

my Question:

do I have to delist him from a LEGAL stand point?

obviously in a small town he will TRASH me with the other competitors I listed but do I actually HAVE TO remove him?

tim

that is amazing, you refer business to this person and they say don't! I would just remove him and list his competitors :)

Provided you are only listing his name address and phone number you shouldn't have any problems from a legal perspective, where people come unstuck is where they take slabs of text from a persons website and use it in the listing, which may amount to copyright infringement.

I guess this falls into a similar category as link removal requests. You are under no obligation to remove them, but you do have good will to consider. I mean what happens if you get them offside when they are a potential customer?

I have also seen link removal requests come in the form of demand letters threatening legal action. I guess a value judgement is needed as to what it is worth to cooperate/not cooperate.

Looking at this from an SEO perspective, it true that SEO does not suit every business.

Haha that's so weird Tim

Perhaps the guy is booked solid already and can't handle any more customers?

Thanks for this info, good to keep this in mind or directory sites.
