i was talking to a guy at a function a few months ago, not a DNT event and he is NOT a dnt member and we were swaping ideas as you do, WELL, seems he liked a few of my ideas so much he is now registering domains and beating my out of drops.

now thats all cool its "dog eat dog" but the reason i told him what i was doing was to help him structure his own ideas but he has turned to just taking MINE.

silly me, i talk to much as everyone knows, but really ! please have your own ideas ! there are sooo many out there.

i've got to much to say about this i am going to STOP myself right now

( everyone says "thankgod" )

i am torn between sharing and being closed, most times i use "dubbodentist" as i have nothing to do with it but i just can't look someone in the eye and lie when asked a question ! , actually i can, i first tell them i am going to lie, then tell them the lie

Exactly why forums like these benefit the lurkers.

Those who tell their secrets are letting the field catch up. I too am guilty of this stupidity.

Another reason to create a verified user system with private access or similar, (not member access). Maybe 300 post count or more. ?

300 post, well maybe after 300 you could apply? i know i have a high post count but many of them are just ( +1 ) or " i agree " which i feel is all valid but really if you have 300 of them being ALL that you state instead of actually contributing and debating and bantering then 300 is a miss for me.

i think its a good idea but admin should decide to change your statis as admin reads everything !!! i think some people who have posted 50 times but given VERY valid posts could be "let in" so to speak.

i think this is a debate that really needs to be discussed so please don't lurk, but post.

I've had original ideas 'stolen' before and it's frustrating, but domaining isn't your idea, it's recycled over and over. On the one hand members state that they want videos to educate people on the value of domains (and domain values to increase) and on the other they want 'their' hobby/business hidden.

IMO, hiding these forums is a track to obscurity for this website.

I can see a picture now:

It's Colonel Sanders, he is at a dinner party and has had a couple of drinks, he is telling everyone in earshot the 11 secret herbs and spices, how he makes up a mix and everything about his business. Shock horror the next month someone from the party has open a chicken takeaway advertising "11 not so secret herbs and spices". 2 weeks later and someone else has a product in corner stores, a dry mix called "The Secret Spices of the Americas".

The Colonel can't believe it, he goes back to the organisers of the dinner party and tells them "something must be done, how could this happen".

The colonel has three proposals,

-The attendees be screened, only men of noble descent should be allowed to attend.
-The men sign an agreement, in their own blood, never to share any recipes for the cooking of fried chicken.
-That the meeting be in secret, the members all get a tattoo on their back signifying their membership and that anyone who breaches the code will have the rock of shame attached to their feet for a week.

The organisers ponder all this & come back with their own proposal,

"Colonel, we have a simple solution, one person with be prevented entry and this won't happen to you again".

Great says the Colonel, who can we bar to stop this happening again?

The organiser look the Colonel and say calmly

"You".

Tim - you need to wise up, if someone is taking your ideas and using them the person whose responsibility that is is you, there is no point telling people not to "pee on your turf" or "have your own ideas".

Don't you hate it when you jump out of bed and race to the computer to research your new "killer idea" that is going to be totally disruptive, unique and land you in paradise...THEN you find it is already in the marketplace, has been tried 100+ times and is common knowledge

HAHA

Some classic Snoopy!

:D

But I must say I tend to agree - loose lips sink ships and unfortunately you just sunk your own...

:o

And let's not get all hypocritical here. I suspect the vast majority of us stumbled into domaining because of something someone else mentioned in passing or that we read.

I for one first started thinking about domaining back in 2007 given that I came from an SEO background and only after reading a post by Aaron Wall on his blog back in 2007 in one of his typical rants... but the point was it was only a small passing comment that Aaron made coupled with my SEO background that made me realise their was an opportunity in the AU market.

Of course luckily for Aaron he wasn't looking to get heavily into AU domains so that didn't cost him anything, but the point was his "loose lips" were what caused me to enter the market - but at least he was smart enough to be monetising, if not building his business model around, his loose lips via his blog.

;)

Nope. I breath a shy of relief and am grateful that capitalism is still working...

:D

What I hate, is when I have a great idea that I think will change the world (or at least make a few dollars) and I've been sitting on it for years but you're busy with you own stuff and you are hoping some other bright cookie with the ability to make it happen is going to connect the dots and have a go so that everyone else can benefit.

I agree that his ideas only got out because of his "loose lips". But sometimes, you just think that who you're talking to is an honest and decent guy who won't have the hide to do something like that.

What's done is done I guess, if you've already enacted some of these ideas you're probably way ahead of him regardless. :)

Tim - you need to wise up

snoopy i am wised up, one thing i am wise to is you never "get" my point, i like sharing and its not the first time this has happened to me but i'm not going to stop.

this istance it wasn't overly important to me, it just shows the character of the person.

stuff that really matters to me i wait till i have what i want before chatting.

love you colonel sanders story.

If it isn't overly important to you wouldn't have started this ranty thread.

I don't know if it even says something about the guys character, a big % of people would copy an idea if they thought it had potential, maybe approaching 100% of the population. The world is full of copies, almost every business is a copy. Almost everything that gets sold is a copy of the original.

No the guy you met once at a function hasn't proved to be your best buddy, he came to you for help with ideas and it sounds like you certainly helped him.

Definitely disagree. I have never been informed of someones detailed ideas and ventures and copied them. It's the kind of stuff which would ruin a professional OR personal relationship.

What professional or personal relationship? He met a guy at a function (for the first time?) and told him a whole lot of stuff about his ideas.

If I was at a function and and told people my ideas I'd expect them to be copied if they were really good ideas, thankfully the ideas are so bad that nobody has bothered.
