i have everything in quickbooks so i get the notifications via email and via a monthly report from helena which includes my domains and my clients.

i have 3 different businesses that relate to 3 business sectors of domains and all domains contact details point to an email that is automatically checked everyday.

+ i have my doman registration accounts at crazy and each time i log in it notifies me of renewals comgin up @ 2 months in advance.

having said all that i have lost a couple along the way but that was when transfering domains from 1 registra to another.

i'm sure i am like most that go through their domain list and say " ohh geez, i forgot i even registered that ! "

so my answer is " get a bookkeeper"

Careful about the email address provider for the admin contact, a lot of hosts and probably ISP's can be gamed to make changes on an account with a phone call. Would use someone who has a very strong focus on security.

good point, scary point, i've been able to do it ( but for the right reasons) when sorting out a clients situation.

We've actually just got a guy to develop a monitoring system for all our domains. It will alert is for things like:

1) domain doesn't resolve
2) phrases like 'hacked by' or 'cialis' etc appear on the page
3) big changes in page size
4) whether adsense code is working
etc

Cost quite a bit but worth it I think

great, page size change is one i think very few people know about, its very subtle and i have found very few antivirus/malware etc can pick it up.

adsense stealing is another to watch out for.

you should package it up and sell it as a plugin
