Is auDA planning to set up and run an official daily drop auction at the same time it takes over the Australian Wholesale Registry? I may be for such an daily drop auction service if it is done right.
The benefits may be:
1. More transparent official auction platform.
2. Profits made can put back into funding auDA and reduce wholesale domain name registration & renewal fees, abolition of COR fees.
3. The best and fairest platform would be along the lines of www.drop.com.au with bid increases by $1 and viewable by public .
4. auDA could watch IP addresses to make sure bids are real and bidders are not being pushed up with fake bids etc.
5. People just go to 1 auction site and there are no games and problems of which drop service catch servers are faster or who has more.
Against
1. I am not sure of any reasons why auDA could not and should not run the official daily drop auction since they will also be the Wholesale Registrar. As long as their system was transparent it may reduce issues some other platforms have had and offer benefits for consumers.
