auDA's share of .au domain name fees raises eyebrows

The new breakdown, auDA told us, is a staggering $6.13 to auDA per domain per annum. Which presumably gives $2.54 per annum to Afilias, with which it'll do all the technical stuff and hopefully make a profit.

Later this month some auDA members, including a former director, are holding an SGM to try to kick out the board. Which will make it the second year in a row that parts of the organisation's membership have hauled directors into an SGM. Last time the chairman resigned on its eve and several others followed soon after.

...and we had to read about it via a 3rd party.

A recent Department of Communications review into how auDA managed the .au space concluded "the current management framework is no longer fit for purpose". To which we can only say: no kidding.

it really shows everyone that this deal translates to Afilias offering poor service over time just to make a buck.

I don't think so.

Registry prices can be done and make profits at $1 retail. This is just one of many namespaces Afilias runs and they make plenty of money

.au domain name Consumers have been ripped off for years.

The new auDA management said they would fix it and what they did is take over the ripping off for themselves.

auDA Management and Directors can prepare themselves for a lot more global bad media and worse...

Comes to a 167% price rise for auDA fees. (assuming no dodgy foundation fees)

$2.30 per year to $6.13

.au Registrars, Resellers and 3 million .au domain name Consumers are being ripped off massively by auDA current Management and Board.

Time to sack them all and replace them with people who can do it better and cheaper.

That is a fact. When auDA's fees take up over 70% of the wholesale cost something is badly wrong.

Maybe @auDA @LJPatton and @AUdomain should take a look at this (https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=2735778&p=1 …) and start to correct a few public comments before saying anything else. Listen to your constituents and the messages rather than focusing on the messenger #howboutdat

@SenatorFifield jobs go overseas and performance drops all for more money for @auda and their “marketing and innovation” or as we have seen in the past @auDA and their #slushfund. @CommsAu @myriamrobin

That is really the problem, the registry price has dropped but for what? No benefit to anyone other than 1 Collins. I guess the issue now is whether auDA has crunched the price so low that the service is substandard or is it just teething problems?

The tender was a potentially a wonderful thing for Australian business to save money and that opportunity has been squandered by auDA's board, the CEO in particular.

It appears very obvious now everyone is being ripped off except auDA themselves..
  • Registrars are being screwed by auDA
  • Resellers are being screwed by auDA
  • .au domain name Consumers are being screwed by auDA
IF the Supply backs the Grumpier SGM it will make sure auDA can seriously relook at this con job and and change.

Current management will never change.. they will steam roll onwards with delusional empire building models they want to benefit from personally.... pay rises, bonuses for themselves etc

The Government report said to auDA Stop profiteering so they do the opposite and increase their fees!

Wake up its been rigged for the benefit of auDA and their mates or contractors.. consultants, advertising, PR they choose to pay the big money out to..

The flip side is they are giving registrars money (marketing slush fund). Will be interesting to see if that lasts long term as I believe the reason for it is to do with the SGM and AGM.

Legal experts and industry insiders say this payment is better described as a kickback, it could be costing the health system millions, inflating insurance premiums, and ultimately impacting on public-hospital patients.

It sounds very similar because I think the aim is to keep prices high and and it definitely reduces price competition because registrars are effectively being given a price signal.

ie. you should not charge under $8.67 but we will pay some of your expenses.

The correct way to do it would be to simply reduce auDA fee and not have any type of kickback. There is no reason why auDA should be paying expenses for registrars.
